In today’s world, there are a multitude of health care treatments and tests, alternative options, energy healing modalities, and websites with contradicting advice for any ailment, or concern, a person has. It can simply be overwhelming. How can one sort through all this information and choose the best one, in this present moment? Reiki can help us to find the right path.
Reiki assists us in many ways. Investigating this mass of information requires a calm and steady approach – and some spiritual guidance is always a great benefit! Ask for assistance in finding the right modality for you. If you decide upon a medical procedure or a medication, Reiki will enhance the benefits of that method.
Discernment can also be used to find the right professional, whether it is a medical doctor, an acupuncturist or a Reiki practitioner. Every professional embodies a knowledge base, experience in her specialty, belief system, and perhaps most importantly – brings in a multitude of energies affecting the healing relationship. As each of us grows in awareness of our own energy systems, it becomes easier to understand and identify the energies of others.
- Is your physician kind and compassionate?
- Is your physician always in a hurry, rushing onto the next patient, or does she truly stop and listen to your concerns?
- Does she think through everything you have reported, or does she jump to quick conclusions?
- Does she have positive or negative energies?

In the same way, we should use our gift of discernment to work with a healing modality professional. If you feel attracted, or repelled, by a professional, pay attention to those signals. Take a few moments to identify exactly what is appealing, or non-appealing, for you. If you feel some resistance, it could be related to a potential concern, such as you detect the practitioner is working from his ego, or lacks a true understanding of energy work. It may take some processing time to figure that out! But, your gut wisdom had told you to avoid this person and find someone else to work with – listen to your gut feelings. Or, it may be the practitioner is very skilled, but he is not the right match for you – your energies do not resonate with each other.
I happen to live in an area of the country where there are many Reiki, and other healing, professionals. I always find it fascinating how people choose a practitioner – and how frequently they find the perfect fit! There is something happening that is beyond the logical and rational methods – spiritual guidance can lead people to the professional who will be most helpful to them. Spiritual guidance can come in the form of thoughts, feelings, and synchronicities.
The process of discernment is finding facts and information, considering the pro’s and con’s of each, and using intuitive skills. Reiki helps us in each of these steps. The more we can stay relaxed and focused, and learn to trust our own wisdom, the better decisions we will make. Discernment is a gift, but it is a gift that requires cultivation. With an intentional effort to develop fully, one can create a path of healing, wisdom and joy.
The gift of discernment is truly a beautiful blessing!
