Reiki is often viewed as a path of alternate healing. This is because Reiki is sometimes spoken about in the context of medical healing – where we have allopathic medicine as the conventional form of treatment and a bunch of other therapies (including Reiki) which are viewed as alternate or complementary in nature. While this understanding of Reiki may contain a grain of truth, it masks the bigger picture of what Reiki actually offers. People who have been long enough on the Reiki path will know that Reiki practice is synonymous with spiritual growth. So, Reiki is truly a form of spiritual healing. And when we say spiritual healing, it includes the mind, body and spirit.
Healing with Reiki automatically equates to healing at and from the level of Spirit. This kind of healing does not always work like medical treatment which primarily helps to support the physical body in the here and now. Reiki works at the level of energy and spirit. It also works outside the here and now- across space and time. At the deepest level, we are all nothing but wisps of energy. We are currently in human form and reside in a physical body that helps us with life on Earth. However, we also have an energy body that envelops our physical body. This energy body carries several impressions from our past and we continue to add impressions to it every single day. While some of these impressions are empowering, others are distorted. These distorted impressions constrict the free flow of energy. When the flow is constricted long enough, it results in an imbalance on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes. Some impressions are karmic in nature and may have been with us for lifetimes. They will continue to be with us until we learn the lesson that they are trying to offer us and release them.
So, when we talk about healing with Reiki, we are almost always talking about healing at the spiritual level. Offering support to the physical body is only one aspect of Reiki. Reiki flows to the mind, body and spirit, because ultimately all of them are interconnected. It is important to view Reiki healing in the proper light so as not to get it confused with medical treatment.
Let us summarise what it means to heal at the spiritual level. Spiritual healing translates to:
- First and foremost, becoming aware of the fact that we are energy beings currently residing in a temporary physical body.
- Knowing that what we think, speak and do creates impressions in our energy field. These impressions can have a balancing effect or create an imbalance. Taking responsibility for our actions and our lives.
- Being aware that some of the stuff we carry may originate in another lifetime and have nothing to do with our present reality. In such cases, healing is directed to a different point in time and space.
- Becoming aware that our soul made several choices pre-birth and that there is a higher reason why our life is the way it is- the good and the not so good. Having the wisdom to understand that all of this is part of the game that our soul chose to play on Earth. Taking life seriously enough to work on healing ourselves but not so seriously that we forget that it is ultimately just soul play.
Healing with Reiki helps us tune into Spirit, to remember our long forgotten connection with Spirit. This remembrance is part of what spiritual healing is all about. So, by all means, we can work with Reiki to support our bodies, while bearing in mind that the healing offered by Reiki goes much deeper. This awareness will help us make the most of what Reiki has to offer to us. Love and Light!
