Article by Reiki Nurse
IMPORTANT NOTE: The recommendations outlined in this series in no way replace your Primary Care Provider’s instructions and health care regimen in treating diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is a serious metabolic condition that requires professional assistance and treatment. Diabetes Mellitus needs to be managed effectively and professionally in conjunction with an experienced health care provider. Please do not use any of the methods outlined in this article to ‘self-treat’. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, or if your client has been diagnosed, please ensure that your health care provider is aware of any other treatment options that you are interested in trying in the management of your dis-ease.
Important Stuff
I’m beginning to see that this series is an important one, and it is my responsibility to get correct and updated information to my readers in regard to Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM, formerly called Type I diabetes) and Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM, formerly called Type II diabetes). I feel that it is important that I inform you, the reader, correctly; especially in light of the fact that there are many people out there who have only bits and pieces of information.
It is imperative that if you have been diagnosed with either of these types of diabetes mellitus, you stay in close contact with your medical professionals who know how to treat each of these serious metabolic conditions appropriately. Both types of diabetes mellitus can be fatal; as both types, when not treated appropriately can lead to serious medical conditions of the kidneys, heart, eyes, and other organs and limbs. This series is not meant to be your one and only source of information, nor am I claiming to be an expert on this subject. Always do your own research, and ALWAYS stay in touch and communicate effectively with your medical providers.
Briefly
With that said, allow me to expand on the previous article in this series, by reiterating the basics of caring for yourself or empowering your Clients to care for themselves with this condition:
- Healthy, low-carbohydrate, low-sugar (no sugar is best!) eating. This site is chock full of excellent information: Diabetes and Healthy Eating
- MOVE!!! Walk, Run, Jog, Swim, Ride, Play tennis, Golf … keep moving!!! Form an activity group in your community, such as group walks, rides, hikes, etc.
- Meditate/ Pray/ Focus/ Positive Affirmations
- Reiki Treatments/ Crystals/ Energy Work/ Massage/ Holistic health
- Educate yourself ~ knowledge is power!
Since my previous article in this series, I have had several queries in regards to Type I diabetes, and I wanted to find more information for those of you with Clients and/or relatives with such questions. This site has brilliant information about Type I Diabetes & Low-Carb High-Fat Diets.
Gemstones & Crystals ~ A Recap
Citrine, I have found, is one of the most effective and powerful gems/crystals that I have used in Reiki healing for diabetes. Not only is citrine one of only two crystals in the mineral kingdom that does not absorb (but actually repels) negative energies, it also works as a buffer against any negative vibrations. It never absorbs negativity, therefore requires little to no cleansing whatsoever. Citrine is absolutely beautiful, as well. I call mine the ‘Sunshine Stone’, as it’s deep, golden to amber colour shines beautifully and brightly, even on an overcast day.
Other effective gemstones and crystals that have worked well include Topaz, Fire Opal, Carnelian, Hematite, and Clear Quartz (other Quartz, such as Smokey Quartz, also has been effective). When using Crystals in your practice, I encourage you to utilize your Intuition to choose the particular stones that work for you. This article is simply a guideline; there are no hard and fast ‘rules’ with Reiki and crystal healing, or with any other form of healing work. As you practice, you will find what is most effective for you and your individual Clients. What works well on one Client, may not work as well on another. Everyone is individual and unique, and it’s important to remember that when practicing any form of healing, energy work, or even massage therapy.
In using Crystals for healing, I find it most appealing for me to place one of the symbols (CKR, DKM, or another) directly into the Crystal, and then again in the area of my Client’s Solar Plexus. The reason I use the Solar Plexus Chakra is because the Pancreas is associated with this Chakra, and diabetes is related to the beta cells and others (the insulin production cells, so to speak) of the pancreas. This is a general explanation in the Anatomy & Physiology of the pancreas and insulin production. The process is actually a bit more complicated, but we’ll stick to the simplicity of this explanation for the purpose of this article.
Some of you have emailed me since the last article to query about the use of crystals in your treatments. There are absolutely many types of crystal therapy courses online and in your communities, but in my opinion, crystals ~ like energy ~ are available freely to everyone Universally. There is absolutely no need to spend exorbitant amounts of money becoming ‘certified’ in something you can gain the esoteric knowledge and experience with on your own, or with your Guides and Intuition facilitating your learning.
With that said if you feel it’s important for you to obtain ‘official’ instruction in using gemstones and crystals in your healing sessions, by all means, please do! In my own experiences, I’ve attended several crystal healing, herbal, and numerology classes and workshops that I have gained knowledge from, as well as being an avid researcher, reader, and experimenter with various forms of healings. It pays to dabble in many forms of healing modalities!
Example of a Diabetes Healing Session
Prior to your Client arriving in the space in which you’ll be doing your healing, place CKR, DKM, or HSZSN symbols all about the room. Ensure that the corners of the room are Reiki’d. If you have spoken with your Client during the days prior to his/her session with you, you may have asked him/her to write their feelings or emotions around having to live with diabetes, or any impressions he/she has experienced since the last session with you, or any fears or concerns he/she may have in doing healing work around diabetes.
This helps to allay and/or identify any fears or doubts your Client may have that might become obstacles to their healing. As you can remind your Client frequently, the healing is up to them ultimately and not up to you. You are simply a conduit for the Sacred Energy you are beaming/channeling to them, but ultimately it is their attitude, their positive affirmations, and their work that will effect the changes required for the Reiki Energy to work in their body. Each of us must take responsibility for healing ourselves during this crucial and auspicious time on Gaia, whilst Gaia raises her vibrations ~ we are all responsible for raising our own frequencies.
I like to place my symbols in all four corners (representing all 4 directions) as well as on my table, where I will be working. I place a large chunk of Amethyst or Quartz under my table, as well. I also put on some Reiki music, softly playing. I don’t usually light incense unless I know my Client does not have an adversity to it. Sometimes incense can be too overpowering for people with Asthma or allergies.
When your Client is lying comfortably on your table and draped appropriately, begin your regular healing session as you always do. You will already be aware that your healing session is about reversing diabetes. When the time is right (known to you via your Intuition or time constraints, if you have another session after this one) begin the focused healing of the pancreas via the Solar Plexus, with your crystals, symbols, etc. I take a longer time on this area of the Client (the Solar Plexus) focusing intently on the Light and the symbols that I’ve decided to use during the session.
When the session is completed, and your Client has come off the table and ‘wakened’ enough to have a discussion, allow him/her to express what he experienced during the session, if anything. And, naturally, remind him that he may experience visions, dreams, or other unusual experiences in the coming days and before his next session with you.
Until next time, my friends, be grateful to the Reiki Grand Masters, Reiki Angels, Reiki Elementals, and Reiki Devas! Live in Gratitude. Divine Reiki Blessings to all! Namaste.

Hi, very interesting article. I have completed 3 levels of Reiki and was wondering why you said not to do a self treat. I have type 2 diabetes and would have loved to do this to myself
Hello Michelle!
Thank you for your kind words! Oh, by all means, PLEASE treat yourself! I’m not sure where you read that you shouldn’t treat yourself? Self-treatment is highly important! I would not discourage it at all!
Kathi
when i did my reiki training diabetes was one of the things you had to be very careful with, this was because if there was a significant improvement it could be dangerous for the client unless keeping a very close eye on their levels. do you have any thoughts?
