One of the recurring questions we get on Reiki Rays is this:
I was attuned X years ago, but I haven’t practiced during this time. Am I still attuned?
The short answer is: Yes!
The longer answer is that the attunement never “wears off” due to the lack of practice. While your energy channels may be “clogged”, you still have the ability to send Reiki, and can actually start right away.
Yes, you can start using Reiki as if you were attuned yesterday. It may take a while for the channels to clear, and it may be more difficult for you to sense the energy in the beginning. But you’ll begin to feel it soon enough. The more you practice, the sooner.
So no worries. Of course, you can always get re-attuned 🙂 – it is a valid “shortcut”, but definitely not a requirement to be able to channel healing energy.
Is it possible to be channeling energy for self healing without attunement and basic knowledge ?? Xxx
Yes it is possible Kelyan but you are leaching your own energy not the Universal energy that the Reiki attunements allow you to do therefore you can get the feeling of being washed out and energy depleted. Reiki allows you to maintain your energy levels before transferring to your client, i.e. If you are treating someone and you feel that the energy is not flowing you are being topped up, you will feel the difference in your hands when the Reiki begins to flow. The more you practice the more aware you become of your hands
Maybe I will ‘blasphem’ but IMHO attunement is here to give the accurate ‘feel – like’ one can invoke when sending reiki.
It’s a kind of shortcut.
I think if one is ‘enlightened’ enough, they can ask their higher self to be attuned and so it will be. The higher self will give the correct attunement and the manual. I think that’s how Mikao Usui has developed reiki.
That’s why reiki is a whole path of enlightenment. Not only a healing system.
And that’s why once developed, it’s like biking, it can’t be unlearned.

I feel you are so correct. I just had this discussion with my husband a few days ago. We were discussing that when reiki works for our best interest it may not be what we seek. One must be enlightened to truly be one with the higher self and that means one may have to give up their worldly attachments. That could mean wealth, lifestyle, job, or anything else. If true enlightenment is really what is in our best interest are we prepared to give up all we hold dear? Most are not. I know I am not. I have a family and home and friends. I don’t want to give up all that. Does that mean I will never achieve enlightenment? Unless I give them all up? That is what Usui did and Buddha.
Anywaysn not to be so sombre, but I think we should really think about what it is we need, be true to ourself.
The value of getting attuned and taking a class is priceless though. You’re taught different ways to use Reiki, the history of Reiki, plus the benefit of hearing others’ experiences and feeling for yourself the power of an attunement (it’s a very spiritual and cleansing process). I am a Reiki Master now and before I learned Reiki, I thought I used energy healing. And I did, but being attuned to Reiki by someone else showed me the huge difference. It’s so much more amazing after being attuned.

I’m sorry if it is blasphemy to you, it is not the purpose.
But even if this experience is… Well.. Enjoyable in many ways, it showed me how Mrs Takata (not consciously) created an egregore.
With its rituals (hand positions, attunements, ..) and hierarchy (levels) … It became for many practitioners like a religion, with its sacred symbols, its rigidity, it’s priests..
All this created a gigantic thought form with all its might.
You can connect it to receive energy with the appropriate key(symbol) and you’d better thank it at the end of the session to give it energy in exchange
I’m not saying it’s malevolent, on the contrary, it has permitted to ease the access to energy and it’s for healing and higher spiritual purpose.
That’s how I see reiki, and this point of view allows me to see beyond, what I call true universal energy. The one Dr Usui saw, understood and used.
Because there was no egregore at his time he had no other choice to tap in raw energy

I always look at Reiki as a hollow pipe, if you dont keep it clear it gradually builds up with cob webs, each time you use your Reiki it starts to clear away the cob webs.
4 years ago, I was attuned to Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 over one weekend! I’ve never really used Reiki much, but now I feel ready, but I and concerned that I’m not properly attuned. I have been offered the chance to be re attuned to Reiki 2, is this necessary?
Hi Anna, I have always been taught and now insist on that any student I attune to Level 1 or Level 11 always have a minimum of 6 months between attunements. This allows you to get to know and use your hands and to work on yourself first and foremost as that is the main reason people find Reiki is to give them a kick start in healing in their healing journey.
