Why do Reiki practitioners, expect to be compensated for their services?
Payment Creates Balance
When talking about therapies, many people question the issue of compensation. Well, at the request of some students, I would like to answer this question. I base my opinion on many Reiki Teacher’s opinions.
When we provide our services without asking anything in return, we are giving to ourselves and others, the message that what our work has no value. Could it be possible that people, who question the value of Reiki, are people not truly interested in this discipline?
And for those who are, make sure you thank them for honoring what you do.
Money is the way of sharing time and energy nowadays. Monetary compensation is one of the ways of showing gratitude. This is a fair trade for someone who has put in time, energy, and labor to share his or her knowledge with others.
Therefore, I tell my students, that offering free sessions is like telling the universe: “I cannot charge for my service,” or worse, “I do not deserve remuneration” (taken from the Law of Attraction).
Many people “take advantage” of new Reiki practitioners, requesting free Reiki sessions or Reiki distant healing. In general, if you pay attention to this, whoever asks for Reiki healing, should have taken at least one session in person. That’s also why I insist that distant Reiki should be done, only when the person is unable to attend sessions in person. Many of the people that ask you for distant Reiki are not among these cases. I usually answer: “I’ll be glad to help you today, but you need to think about taking Reiki in person where you are, sooner rather than later.” This is a way to get them out of their comfort zone.
Here are some concepts extracted from different authors on Reiki, that also apply to any type of therapy:
- Remuneration shows that you value your time.
- Remuneration shows that you value what you do.
- Remuneration shows that you value your preparation to do the healing.
- Remuneration shows that the person is willing to make an effort to “heal”.
- Remuneration shows that you value this tool you have in your hands.
Those who question why Reiki practitioners expect remuneration:
- Do not really have an interest in “healing”, and usually state, “It does not work for me”.
- Do not recognize your hard work, dedication, and training for this service.
- Do not consider the value of your time.
- Do not value the commitment involved in performing these techniques.
- Take advantage of your goodness and usually will not hesitate to be the first to criticize this discipline.
If YOU do not value what you do, DO NOT expect others to do it for YOU.
