Creating a Reiki Altar

Articles

11 Sep 2014

I have seen an increase in the energy flow when I channel Reiki from my altar than other parts of my home. I have also sensed an increased energy flow while sending Reiki outdoors. It is a good practice to do your daily healings and meditations from one place in your home.

When you keep praying or healing at the same spot, this becomes your meditation ground or your energy circle. This sacred space knows your personal energy so well that, it calls upon your guides the moment you step into this energy circle. I have noticed whenever I light an incense at my altar I can immediately sense the presence of some Angel or Archangel. I have been doing this for so long, that they know it’s time for me to meditate or do some healing, so they immediately come by my side.

How do you create an altar? What can you keep in this altar? How do you clean your altar? First, you need to find a flat and broad surface few feet above the ground. This could be outdoor or indoor. I am of course talking about an indoor altar. You can place some Reiki or Angel photos or statues in this place. If the surface is made of marble or granite, you can just use it directly, as it will provide natural grounding when you do your energy work.

If it is wood or plastic, you can use a nice table cloth. Keep your statues on the altar. Keep your Reiki / God box on the altar. You can also place Reiki symbols on the wall near the altar or in a photo stand. I have made a large collage of all the Reiki symbols. Chakra positions and Kanji alphabets in the wall near my altar. I also have photos of Dr Mikao Usui as I really like connecting with him often.

Keep your tarot or oracle cards on the altar. Always keep a little bottle of perfume to spray on the altar. Incense and / or candles are a must, as fire cleanses negativity and clears space. Basically, keep all your healing tools in one place. They will pick up energies from each other, which is good because we tend to use one tool more than the other. This way your energy will spread evenly on your cards , statues, symbols, paintings etc. And whenever you feel a drop in your energy, you can draw energy from these charged objects.

Use rock salt and water to clean and wipe the altar. You can also run some incense or sage over the altar, because the altar also has an aura. Some practitioners keep saying their energy flow has reduced or they feel their energies are scattered, this could be one of the reasons. When you’re at home channel energy from one place, you will start conserving it and your healing ability, meditation skills, mind control, visualization skills will all enhance. Create your Reiki altar today!

Hi Meetu, since you have no other place you can create your altar there..otherwise metal is not a good option as it absorbs energy…you can close the altar at night..thanks

Hello Ananya, I love this article. Twice a month I do a Reiki Distance session during new & full moon phases for the planet and anyone I feel needs reiki. I totally agree that when you create an area or altar using reiki to do meditations, distance healing the angelic presence is automatic, I’ve experienced this….it’s as if they know “ok time to pay Sandra a visit” for the transmission. I like your blog and the site and find your comments and suggestions are totally in sync with what I actually do, I will be receiving my reiki masters certification the end of the month and really looking forward to this. Blessings to you, Sandra

Hi, while giving reiki we often feel heat or vibrating sensations, this means that person or that particular body part has a blockage and therefore needs more Reiki…nothing to worry !

    Thanks Ananya,
Very nice article. Your articles are always very informative.
Recently had a distant Healing and I felt burning sensation, pricking and intense pain in the left shoulders during the session. I have had previous healing sessions but never had this intense feeling. What does – burning, pricking and pain in a particular region refer to?
Thanks a lot for your insights.

    Hi Ananya,
I loved your idea of creating a Reiki altar. I had been meaning to create one for a while now but didnt know how. Thank you for the informative article.

I am Reiki II practitioner & just starting out as a healer.
I thought it was a good idea to give Reiki outdoors..and I see you have mentioned the same.
Right now, I don’t have a clear picture of the right places to choose & things I might need. Can you share some thoughts on it
    Thank you.

Hi Annan ya thanx for sharing such a beautiful article .I m not satisfied with my reiki 2nd degree I had prepared a reiki box use to give reiki daily but no intentions in the box are getting fulfilled nor the distant healing is helpful what shuld I do ? Hi chitra, using a reiki box is less effective than giving healing to goals one at a time mainly because of lack of focus. You send reiki but ur intention is not focused enough to one particular item in the box. Ur attention is scattered.
The most important ingredient of a reiki healing is the intention. When you send reiki, you should also give out the intention to heal the person or realise a goal.
With distance healing, you must use a substitute such as a teddy or a pillow for the healee..declare that ur healing in this session be directed to the healee..n go about sending reiki as would in a hands-on treatment.
Also, if u have not been practising self reiki daily, now is a good time to start. Unless you keep yourself clear of all energy blocks, most of your channeled reiki will be used up to heal you rather than your clients. So keep ur chakras clear, do self reiki daily.

I would like to share that Reiki goes where it is needed. If the healer has a block it will be healed along with the client. The Reiki energy is not diverted, diffused or high jacked in any way. If you as a Reiki healer cannot do Reiki on a daily basis or even a weekly basis there is no reason for guilt or worry. These are negative emotions and do more harm to yourself than missing self Reiki sessions. It is good to keep all of your Reiki tools and crystals together, but it is not necessary to make an altar. Some receive comfort in having an altar, some find it a good way of having everything organized and together, some find it a throw back to Religious patterning. Do what makes you feel comfortable in your practice.
I have channeled for a number of years and from day one have been told Do Not expose, display sacred Reiki symbols. If you wish to make a small handbook of your symbols to use when you want to. Do so, but keep them from the public. Marketing has been an issue, Pinterest displays them as if they were everyday items. Treating sacred symbols as everyday items cheapens their meaning and our use of them. We are taught to sign them in our mind or on the roof of our mouth or carefully concealed in our hand. Along with Intent these sacred symbols provide channels to healing energy. We need to respect where that comes from and how we access it. I share this with you in loving intent to share what has been channeled. It is your free will to do what you will. I want to set up my alter on my grandmother’s old wooden steamer’s trunk. My question is that because of limited space I do have to use the trunk as storage for things I don’t frequently use. but that are not necessarily spiritual in nature. Will this make a difference even though then items on top will be my tools.

A God Box or what I call a God box a least… I have a pretty glass container like maybe you would use as a jewelry box and this is my God box. When I have a problem that is just too big for me to do anything about I pray about it and write it on a slip of paper and put it in my box and give it to God.

I wonder why you call it a Reiki altar…as an altar is a place of sacrifice? As a Christian this would worry me greatly.

      The Definition for Altar is:

the table in a Christian church at which the bread and wine are consecrated in communion services.
a table or flat-topped block used as the focus for a religious ritual, especially for making sacrifices or offerings to a deity.

The IN A CHRISTIAN CHURCH…. I am very much a christian. My Reiki Altar is based on Christianity. With Mother Mary as my center. In the Baptist Church we are asked to come forward to the alter to pray and have other church members pray with us. I don’t see any issue with this. but to each his own

By returning to the same spot, the energy becomes amplified. I had been approaching it from the other direction: I have performed distance Reiki sessions from all rooms, deliberately. I thought I’d spread the energy around like a blanket!! This is an intriguing concept, thank you!!
