A sigil is a symbol used in magic. You can create sigils using words, or phrases, based on your intent and desired outcome.
A sigil begins with your word (s), let’s say, “Be Healthy” is the intent. Then you remove all of the vowels. So, at this point, it would read, “B Hlthy”. You would then create a symbol out of those letters. It’s a creative process, so you can layer the letters upon each other, or, create an image. You can also take similar look letters and combine them. The symbol you end up with will no longer look like the letters that you began with.
We can take the concept of sigil making and use it for Reiki, instead of magic. This creates another layer in which to infuse your intention into the Reiki session.
Start by thinking of the phrasing for your intention for the Reiki energy. Is this a Reiki session for health, prosperity, continued wellness, enhanced communication? Once you have the essence of your intention, or the reason, you can then work on how you want to phrase your intention. This can be a sentence, a few keywords, or a single word.
Write down your intention on a piece of paper. Cross out all of the vowels in your word or phrase. You can begin layering the letters on top of each other to see if a symbol begins to emerge. Or, you can rearrange the letters to see if an image based off of your intention, is being created. If you feel that you still have too many letters, you can combine the capital letters or letters that are similar. You can deconstruct your phrase or words while keeping the intention in place.
Keep working with the letters to form a symbol or image. You can create any kind of stylized lettering, or drawing. For instance, an “M” could be used to create a basic mountain landscape. Or, an “L” could be used as a stem to create a flower with other letters. The easiest method is to layer the letters on top of each other, much like you might see on a monogrammed towel.
My Reiki symbols often end up with curlicues, leaves, petals, and look similar to old wrought iron decorative fences.
Once you’ve created a symbol, or image, of your intention then you can use it just like you would for any Reiki symbol that you have been attuned to in your training. You infused your symbol with your intention with all of the time you spent constructing and creating it. Your final step is to combine it with the Reiki energy and let it go out to the Universe.
