I’m an unapologetic lover of dandelions. I have a series of dandelions that come back each year. They get more stunning with age. The stalks measure over 12 inches high and one plant will hold over 15 heads, in various stages of growth, at one time.
I like to use dandelions in my Reiki practice. They are a great visual tool for the power of intention. Take the bud of the dandelion. Prior to the flowers blooming the bud is tightly wrapped. Here is where I send my intention. I let the bud hold my intention. I watch it slowly mature over a few days, visualizing my intention growing, becoming stronger and taking shape.
What we think of as a dandelion flower, the vibrant yellow, is actually composed of a couple of hundred flowers. They are called ray shaped flowers. I love the word ray in relation to Reiki. It speaks of the ability of Reiki traversing the universe, of being part of the Sun, of being able to beam and travel great distances.
While my intention was growing inside the dandelion, it infused hundreds of flowers. This special dandelion that I asked to carry my Reiki intention, will do so, a hundred times over. Now, in bloom, my intention will be nourished by sunlight. The intention will drink in the rain. Each morning the sky will greet it. Each evening the moon will let it rest. Bees will stop by, feast on the pollen and carry the intention onwards. Nature will care for my intention.
The dandelion moves onto its next stage of growth. The fuzzy papus seed head looks like a cloud. Giant white puffballs call to children everywhere. They are wish carriers and wish granters.
When my dandelion is ready, the wind will carry my intention away. It will travel until it finds a new home. The seeds housing the intention will create a new generation of plants. This is how I visualize Reiki and intention. It goes where it’s needed. It flows with the momentum of energy. It’s a living entity that, with the right circumstances, can flourish for years to come.
Dandelions allow me to feel my intention grow, bloom, and then, soar into fruition.
