There are times when we have to share with the world that we are Reiki practitioners. While a lot of people think of Reiki as a form of complementary therapy, many have no idea about how it works. If an individual with a scientific or rational bent of mind asks you about Reiki, you may not feel sure about how to explain energy healing to them. The good news is that it is possible to talk to them about Reiki without either of you feeling uncomfortable along the way.
The first thing to remember is that using scientific jargon to explain energy healing can put off many rational minded people. They can be quick to dismiss it as pseudoscience! But remember that it is not important to convince anybody that Reiki is scientific. This is because Reiki doesn’t necessarily have to be scientific for it to be of value. It offers enough value in itself.
The objective here is to present Reiki in the light of what it offers as a gift to humankind.
This article shares an easy to understand logical explanation you could offer for Reiki. You do not have to use the same words as mentioned here. Do feel free to tweak it to suit your personal style of communication.
How does Reiki work?
“Reiki is a healing practice that helps create well-being. You know how comforting it feels to have someone place their palms on our shoulder or simply hold our hand. It shows they are giving us their attention and that they care. During a Reiki session, we do exactly that! We give ourselves some much needed care by placing our palms on or a little over different parts of the body. This is done in a very systematic manner. As we do this, the body and mind begin to slow down and relax. At the end of a Reiki session, one can expect to feel recharged and rejuvenated. Reiki can be so deeply relaxing that it often becomes meditative. With regular practice, it also helps to make one self-aware and grow spiritually.”
That’s it! You do not have to present theories of life force energy, chakras, attunements and all of the esoteric concepts that could fly over someone’s head. As energy healers, we know that it is not even necessary for one to believe in these concepts to experience the benefits of a Reiki healing.
Keep your explanation simple. Use words people are most likely to process. If their interest is piqued, they will come back and ask you for more. And then you can consider delving into the esoteric!
