Let me first wish everyone a blessed and safe 2021. I hope and pray for everyone’s wellbeing.
We have entered this year with hope and prayer like never before. I have witness people cursing the year 2020 and asking to throw this awful year in the waste bin. So much abhorrence for 2020!
I know the year had been very tough for many of us; it took away jobs, it caused separation, it caused death and misfortune as well. We probably never thought to be locked inside our homes, isolated for so long. Indeed it had been a very tough experience! I pray and hope that this year brings healing to everyone’s life.
At the same time, was not there anything in 2020 to be grateful for? I have some reservations towards comments, this attitude of cursing 2020. I believe every tough situation teaches us something, it hits us hard to leave our comfort zone and discover something new. I am writing this article today to share my experience, my views on 2020. I am sure I have been extremely blessed to have a shelter, good health, family, food and comfort.
I will share my learning first:
-
- The year 2020 has taught us that nothing is impossible. We lived alone or without help and started doing things that we never thought we would do. So, we are much more stronger and capable than we think we are.
- Many who lost their jobs or were pushed out of their routine life started exploring new horizons of possibilities for survival. It’s tough but we all need to move out of our known and comfortable territories for growth. If we are at the same place, doing the same thing, will we ever be growing?
- People became innovative in finding out various ways of survival and livelihood. I was really surprised.
- A much needed pause. I believe everyone will agree to this. In our demanding lives, we hardly get time to connect with each other. Most importantly, to connect with ourselves, our passions, and our hobbies! During this pandemic, we went back to the basic. We started painting, cooking, baking, singing, gardening and so on. We did things that made our souls happy. We got in touch with our long lost passions and hobbies.
- One of the biggest things that had happened, even when we were wearing masks physically, many faces, relationships were unmasked. We have seen people turning away, denying responsibilities for their loved ones out of fear. The truth of many relationships came in open; the relationships which were hollow and futile came in the forefront.
- However, in this pandemic situation there were so many people who came forward to help unconditionally. Kindness and compassion were at peak.
- We spent some quality time with our families. We cooked together, we ate together, we laughed together, we shared our concerns together, and we prayed together. It was much needed at an era where nobody has time for anybody. We rediscovered the lost friendship, the lost romance, the lost compassion and love.
- Nature came into some kind of balance. The animals started walking out freely. The rare flowers were at bloom. The climate was better. The pollution was lesser. The sky was clearer. It felt as if Mother Nature was much relieved.
- Value your “NOW”. That’s the only truth and that’s where we live.
These are some of the learnings that I have become aware of but I am sure that collectively many more lessons were taught. So, will you still say 2020 was awful?
Few suggestions to make 2021 a little better:
- Rather than cursing 2020, look deeper and introspect what the year taught you. Unless you take the core learning, probably the fear will always haunt you.
- It’s the right time to be more careful with ourselves and others. We became too self-centric and care less for the animals, for the trees, for nature. We leave so much dirt with every step. Never forget the balance; we need to co-exist with nature.
- Spread love and compassion. Little act of kindness you take you far.
- Count your blessings. Stop complaining. If you are alive, having a shelter, some food to eat, family and friends – you are blessed!
- Most importantly, live well today for who knows tomorrow?! The only truth is the moment we live in. Don’t postpone your happiness. Either we have time or we have money or we have companion. So whatever you have in the present moment, that’s your asset so celebrate what you have.
- If you have more than you need, share your abundance with those who have less.
- Donate what you have not used in past one or two years. Be it clothes, books, woollens, utensils, or anything maintaining all the safety protocol.
- If you are a healer, don’t forget to heal yourself. Keep yourself shielded and protected before you heal others.
- Thank 2020 for all the hardship and the experience for making you a wiser and stronger person.
- Practice Ho’oponopono – to your higher self, to anyone whom you willingly or unwillingly hurt. It’s a beautiful practice of forgiveness.
I am sorry
Please forgive me
I love you
Thank you.
I hope this article will help you to embrace 2020. May the lessons from the year enhance your experience and make 2021 a blessed year.
You can share your views and experience to inspire others as well. We all are learning so each one’s experience is valued.
