Most probably each Therapist has his own way to receive his clients, nevertheless, here below I present a possible sequence.
Hands activation
When activating hands, you show your respect for the Reiki Symbols and at the same time you increase the energy made available. To activate hands, always activate the non-dominant hand in first place with all the symbols you have starting from the last one received. If you want to give a little energy boost, you can draw the CKR on the back of your hands by drawing it, in first place, on the non-dominant hand.
Energetic cleaning
Along the day all of us accumulate lots of negative energy and it is convenient to get rid of it, prior to the treatment, by using the Kenyoku (don’t forget to clean the floor afterwards).
Protection
Protection is one of the key words in Reiki (together with Intention), it doesn’t make sense if you are to be affected by client’s negative energy. For me the best protection scheme is to draw a CKR in front of you, while expressing the intention to protect yourself, followed by a CKR in each of the chakras from Root to Crown. If you feel so, you can indicate the energy to seal both front and back chakras.
Room cleaning
The room cleaning can be performed in several ways but the most complete is to draw the CKR or SHK+CKR on the walls, clockwise and starting from the north wall. Clean corners as well as windows and doors, ceiling and floor. To finish, draw all your symbols in the centre of the room.
You can use an incense stick while drawing symbols
Grounding
Grounding is important to help us control the energy and is part of our protection. The client should also be grounded.
The Grounding conditions should be checked during the treatment and repeated if necessary.
Client reception
Having completed your preparation, its time to receive the client. Generally, I have a small talk with the client to evaluate progress and assess his condition. The conversation has a duration of 15/20 minutes exception made to the first treatment in which I make a full assessment of client condition namely diabetes; blood pressure; actual health condition; previous illnesses and surgical interventions….
Client cleaning
If you sense that the client is heavily charged with negative energy, you can clean him before the treatment by sweeping the energy to the ground (don’t forget to clean the floor afterwards).
Sweep the energy three times from the centre of the back, at shoulder level, downward the arms ending after fingertips; sweep the energy three times from the centre of the back, at shoulder level, to the waist line; sweep the energy three times from the centre of the back, at shoulder level, and conduct it downwards trough the arms and outside of legs to the ground. End with a CKR on the back.
Scan/Byosen Scan
The scan is a very important aspect in the treatment as it will give us information on the client’s energy imbalances thus helping us to address the most important aspects. The Scan should be performed before and after the treatment in order to check if something was left undone.
The Scan Technique as well levels of Byosen, and respective accumulation points, have already been the subject of two articles already published in Reiki Rays.
A dowser can also be used to check the overall status of the chakras before and after the treatment.
Cleaning the Energy Channel
Sometimes, clients arrive with several blocked or inverted chakras and, if so, it is convenient to clean the Energy Channel before the treatment. If, when receiving a client, you are unable to sense the status of his/her chakras, you can use a dowser for that purpose.
The Energy Channel is very often seen as a pipe damaged at each unbalanced chakra. Sometimes the blockage is seen as an obstacle.
Aura smoothing
The objective of Aura smoothing is to uniformize the client’s auric field and realise with the reiki flowing from our hands some denser energies. It also will establish the first contact of the Auras of those involved in the therapy. Just pass, slowly, your dominant hand three times, from head to feet, over the client’s body at about 30/50cms.
The treatment
There is a total flexibility in what concerns Reiki treatments, you can either treat the unbalanced points/areas, follow a given sequence or both. It’s up to the Therapist to follow the treatment he thinks to be the better.
After the treatment
The treatment being completed it’s usual to use the following hands positions for circa 1 minute in each one.
Crown chakra – Root chakra; Front chakra – Splenic chakra; Throat chakra – Solar Plexus chakra;
Heart chakra position.
Aura sweeping
The objective of the Aura sweeping is to pull the energies down after the treatment. The procedure is very similar to Aura smoothing but the movement instead of being slow is rapid.
Treatment sealing
After the treatment you should seal it by drawing a CKR over the client and express a good intention say, for instance, “performed and sealed in the light, may the benefits last….“
Auras separation
Before the client leaves it’s convenient to separate the Auras. You can use the following procedure for that purpose.
- Place your left hand on client’s left shoulder
- Swipe the back diagonally from the right shoulder to the left heap, and then from the left shoulder to the right heap. This movement is repeated sixteen times, eight for each side.
- With index and middle fingers swipe the back, along the spinal cord, from top to bottom 10 times.
- Swipe back, horizontally, three times inside out at three levels, shoulder; SPC and lumbar zone.
An alternative way, for those with Raku, is to use the Raku by drawing it between the two of you.
Final cleaning
After the client leaves you should clean yourself using the Kenyoku and pass your hands over a lit candle. The room as well as everything that has been in touch with your client should be cleaned energetically.
