Back pain is a common health problem, affecting millions of people worldwide. It can be a debilitating situation and more than often, it limits the activity of the affected individuals. It is a leading cause of absenteeism from work. Therefore it incurs a huge medical burden and is a global health challenge.
There are several underlying causes for back pain like posture, damaged vertebrae or problems with the spinal muscles, bones, discs or tendons, etc. There are plenty of medications available like acetaminophen, certain muscle relaxants, etc. However, if the pain is of recurring nature, the root cause is almost always an emotional pain that has become lodged in the subtle body (except in cases of physical traumas).
Here is a primer on how to tame the chronic back pain with a holistic approach including physical as well as metaphysical measures:
1. Sunshine
Several research studies have corroborated that sunlight works wonders to relieve back pain. So soak yourself in the sun for a few minutes every day. The ideal time for exposure is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. because that is when there is the maximum amount of UVB rays in the atmosphere, which stimulates Vitamin D production in the skin. But if you fear sunburn, you could take the sunbath early morning as well.
2. Ergonomic adjustments
Choose a chair that supports your spinal curves and adjust its height and angle appropriately. Work on your body mechanics and improve your posture. A hunchback position is harmful for everyone, you might benefit from reducing sitting and getting up every 30 minutes for a short walk or stretch that elongates and decompresses the spine.
3. Yoga
Several postures/stretches are extremely effective in alleviating back pain. A regular yoga practice will help you strengthen your back and make your life easier.
4. Reiki
Physically our lower back is our foundation and determines our stability. Lower back pain is an indication of an imbalance or blockage in the Sacral chakra and/or Root chakra. The Sacral chakra governs our ability to relate to others and gets blocked when we feel the lack of abundance and creativity in our lives. The Root chakra is blocked by fear and insecurities especially around finances. So healing these chakras with Reiki will helps to release the trapped emotions of insecurity and fear, thereby alleviating the lower back pain.
Reiki tip: Before you start the Reiki practice, make sure you connect to the back chakras using the connection symbol. It is as much important to heal the back chakras as the front chakras.
5. Meditation
Sit in the child’s pose and imagine your back being fully open to receive and emit energy. Breathe out and visualize the painful emotions leaving your back. Release any tension, sadness, fear, guilt, shame. Breathe in and imagine a golden light entering your back area and healing and filling the area while renewing it and restoring it to a state of complete health and peace. Continue the cycles of inhaling and exhaling until you feel better. Follow the exercise with a rest/sleep for few minutes or hours.
Listen to the whispers of your body, nourish it with love so that it never screams out in pain. It’s high time to put an end to all the pain and get back to your natural state of health and joy. Here is wishing you amazing health all the way!
Love and light
