Food is an integral part of our lives. We spend a considerable amount of our lives fetching for, preparing and eating our meals. But do you have a healthy relationship with food? Or you somehow juggle to have your meals amidst all the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Do you suffer from indigestion, acidity, or food allergies? Food is the primary source of energy and therefore like every other relationship, we need to nurture it. A cordial relationship with food goes a long way in enhancing the quality of life. So here is a primer on how to do it to reap the maximum benefits of eating and avoid health issues.
1. Mindful cooking and eating
Treat your meal time as a sacred ritual. Always say a prayer thanking the Universe before you prepare or consume a meal. This helps to bring your awareness in the moment. Do not multi-task when eating, no matter how busy you are. Pay close attention to the task of eating, chew it well and eat slowly. Engage all your senses in the process, enjoy its texture, flavor, aroma and feel your food. Appreciate the food as well as the one who prepared it (it could be you as well). Listen to the cues of your body, eat according to your hunger and stop when you feel satiated. Do not eat to get over some emotions, else it will get ingrained in your everyday routine and impact you adversely in the long run.
2. Celebrate your meal time
Do whatever it takes to make your meal time enjoyable like a festival. It would mean different things to people from various cultures. You could apply your own unique ideas, e.g. using a certain type of cutlery or maybe adding some natural colors like saffron to your food.
3. Reiki your food
You can use any of the Reiki symbols to bless your food. This is very helpful in situations where you go to a restaurant or any occasion where the food is shared. When you don’t know how that food was cooked or where it came from, use the emotional healing symbol to assuage your feelings about it.
4. Know about your food
As a nutritionist and health coach, I find it very exciting to learn about what a certain food does to my body. Food is thy medicine and I know it from my own personal experience as I described in my previous article ‘Treating Acne with Reiki’.
So when I consume any food I look upon it as a piece of art of Mother nature and also the masterpiece of the one who prepared a delicious recipe. If you find it fascinating too, it would greatly help you build a great relationship with food.
5. Choose high vibration foods
Every time you eat any food item, you absorb its energy into your body. The quality of its energy directly impacts on your health and vibration levels. So choose more natural foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables and reduce the intake of junk and processed foods.
Just like every other relationship, this one requires your time and attention. The more you nurture it, the higher your rewards – which extend even beyond the realm of physical health. It helps you access the higher levels of consciousness and connect with the Source. Commitment is all you need.
