I’ll admit it… I was never one to really embrace meditation. I wanted to so badly. I would read about all the benefits of calming the mind in this way. I’d hear friends speak of how great it was to get outside of their head and find their inner stillness. But, when I would sit on a cushion, dim the lights and listen to meditative music, I’d start to list the many things I had to do. I’d feel antsy and even somewhat guilty for taking this time, when there were so many things I “had to do”. Like many, I struggled with finding the time for simply “being”.
I also tried many different kinds of yoga, again seeking a potential spiritual practice, hoping to find inner calm and balance. But, in a yoga class, I would often be too hard on myself and wonder why my arms and legs couldn’t do the things that the other people around me were doing. I was too connected to my physical body and would wonder, “Why am I not sweating?”
Does this sound familiar? I know I am not the only one who convinced myself that this just wasn’t “my thing”. But, thankfully, I remained open and tried Reiki.
When I had my first Reiki session, I felt such a shift. I saw visions and felt energy moving. I got emotional. But, the biggest part of the experience, which I couldn’t explain in the moment, was that I was connecting with my higher self. I realized there was a powerful energy inside of me, which was so much larger than my human self. Thankfully, this was almost twenty years ago and I have now had this inner knowing for almost two decades. It has allowed me to find strength in difficult times and to bring calm to chaos. I was so moved by the changes that Reiki brought to my life, which is why I became a Reiki Master Teacher. I feel like it is my mission to teach people how to connect with their inner light in this way.
Now, I often enjoy a good yoga class. And, I spend many hours in meditation, in everyday life. The open state of awareness and “being” can be achieved in many different ways. It is about allowing and observing and listening for answers… the little whisper from your higher self, when you are able to quiet your mind.
It’s not really about the yoga, or the meditation, or even the Reiki, it is more about the higher consciousness that opens from your practice. Whatever it takes to get you in, (or gets you out, depending on how you look at it)… that IS the way for you.
I wanted to share this, as I still believe there are some who feel that if yoga and meditation were never for them, they assume that Reiki will be similar. And, for me, Reiki was profoundly different. Reiki brought me in immediately and connected me to my own inner power.
When your consciousness shifts and you are reminded of your true essence, you realize all things are possible. You are able to see that there is a solution to every problem. Some call this an “awakening”, an “ascension” or “enlightenment.” Regardless of the vocabulary, it is a sense of inner knowing and it opens you to limitless possibilities and reminds you of your infinite nature.
Our lives can bring unexpected situations, traumatic events, great loss, and huge heartbreak. And, often someone’s pain or struggle is not visible to the outside world. Sometimes it can simply be that life has caused you to question your choices and has depleted your confidence and you are in need of a spark.
We have all been conditioned to “forget about it”. We are told that “time heals all wounds”. As a result, there are often things we have pushed down and buried. They become frozen in our energy, or “stuck”. Sometimes it is not about forgetting, but instead it is the remembering that helps us heal. When we can be brave enough to face the darkness, with new tools and new perspective, we are able to truly release this pain from our energy. We are able to finally let go. You can move onto the next chapter with more power and confidence. You are the author of your story.
Reiki works with you, to find courage to bring light to the darkness, to truly turn your wounds into scars and to rise to a place where you are aware that you are truly eternal.
We are made from source energy… the very same energy that moves the clouds, opens the flowers and paints a beautiful sunset in the sky each night. How could you possibly be anything less than magnificent?
