Rock and Roll, Hip Hop, Classical, Rap, Pop, Jazz, Funk, Country, Salsa, Reggae… music is a universal energy that moves us all. We might not all enjoy the same type of music, but when you find a song you like… you can’t help but feel it. Maybe it has a beat that makes you move physically, or lyrics that move you emotionally. Regardless, it’s safe to say that we feel music. It ‘s not something we see, but it’s an energy we feel. If we go to a live concert… we can see musicians on a stage, singing and playing instruments. We can watch as the drummer moves the sticks and the singer leans into the microphone, but we can’t see the music. The sound waves and the energy of this collaboration are in the air, vibrations and frequencies that we hear and feel that make us move. It is powerful to witness.
I remember being so moved by music as a teen in the 80s. I would listen to a song over and over, until I knew each lyric by heart and could sing into the mirror, holding a hairbrush as a microphone and pretending I was Stevie Nicks, taking the stage. It was a thrill to open a new record and put the needle in place and hear the music in your room. It was also a victory, to hear a song on the radio and press “record” on your cassette player and capture the song, just in time. It is hard to imagine that there was a time when you actually had to wait for a song to come on the radio to hear it. But, to trap it… and make it your own… pure magic!
I don’t think there was a single person in my grade who didn’t memorize every single word to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” album. To this day, if one of the songs plays on the radio, I can still sing every lyric. I bet everyone in my graduating class can. And, the memory immediately takes me back to that time.
I use this music analogy often in Reiki workshops, as I explain the concept of feeling an energy that you can’t see. Some might have a hard time understanding Reiki, grasping its power, or believing it can be real. But, if you close your eyes and think of your favorite song, do you see it… can you touch it… or do you just feel it? You can hear it, that is for certain, but if you really connect with the song… is it the sound of the song that moves you or the feeling it creates? More often than not, it’s the feeling. The sound is what is bringing it into your awareness. The energy that creates the feeling is what brings the outcome to your experience.
If you can learn to connect with Reiki, it can lift your spirits when you feel blue. It can bring calm to a stressful situation. It can also help you feel grounded, if you are in need of connection. Reiki can become like a song you tune into, to shift your mood and help you feel more centered and whole. If practiced daily, Reiki can heighten and enhance your life, in ways that open you to more love and joy in every day.
You might find that Reiki makes you want to dance through life, with grace and ease. It creates a new flow to situations that may have previously felt limited or stuck.
In the same way that we can remember the words to our favorite song from our teenage years, Reiki can connect you with your memories and feelings from every experience since birth. It is all inside of you. It is all part of your energy.
If there is a “happy place” that you remember, you can go there in your Reiki. If there is a person who has passed, who had an energy that made you feel loved and accepted, in a way that you need to tap into currently, you can make that connection. It is always there. Every. Single. Memory.
While Reiki is a powerful tool to bring light to darker memories and brighten things that we might need to work through, it is also equally powerful to recall beautiful memories and feelings in our energy that spark happiness and connection. Those memories and that feeling can be brought into your present circumstance at any moment through Reiki.
So, if you are enjoying the many benefits of Reiki and experiencing this for yourself… rock on. If you are just learning Reiki and doubting the power of this energy… hold on, stick with it. And, for anyone who is thinking of giving Reiki a try and is not yet a believer… in the words of Bruce Springsteen, “show a little faith, there’s magic in the night.”
There is definitely magic in Reiki and I feel honored to share this magic each day through distance healings and in workshops and sessions.
Reiki has proven to be effective across miles and time. I have been able to have successful Reiki sessions with clients in other countries, as far as South Africa, from my home in New Jersey.
We all have this universal life force within us. Tap in and get ready to dance.
