Chujiro Hayashi taught that more than one Reiki practitioner could give a treatment to a person. He would have clients lie on a table and receive Reiki from several practitioners at one time. This is a practice that I have not been taught in Reiki. However, once a month, I participate in a Reiki Clinic where we are partnered with other practitioners.
I enjoy working with one or more partners in giving a Reiki session. At the clinic, there is very little discussion before our first client arrives. There is a meditation circle and Reiki share which allows the universal energy to begin to flow. We may briefly discuss how we would like to proceed working together, but it is largely intuitive.
The Reiki clinic is donation based, it is run once a month and held in a large community room. There are seven Reiki tables set up. As practitioners, we volunteer our time. Prior, to the start of the clinic, we chose a number one through seven. Whomever else has also chosen that number, is our partner for the evening.
I have worked with several different Reiki practitioners. The key to having a successful session with a partner is being in tune to each other’s movements and energy. We walk the client to the table and we both assist them if needed. Once the session begins, one Reiki practitioner begins at the client’s head and the other begins with the feet. Each Reiki practitioner has a different method and a session will never be the same as it was with a different partner.
Many times, during a session, one of us will work on the left side while the other works on the right side. Then towards the end we switch places from where we started. So, if I began at the client’s head, I would end with their feet. Other times, again, depending on the flow of energy between you and your Reiki partner, we will return to where we each started. In this case, if I had begun at the client’s head, that is where I would end.
I have also experienced sessions, where instead of one of us taking the right or left side, we independently work on the whole body. In this case, I would start at the client’s head, working on their right side, then left side and end at their feet. Meanwhile, my partner will have started at the client’s feet and will work on their left side, then right side, and end the session at the client’s head.
I have also partnered with some Reiki practitioners, where we have been so in tune, that we have managed to work, simultaneously on the left and right side in unison. We would almost flow together as one. In this instance, we are each on opposite sides of the client’s body but are hand positioning mirrors each other’s.
It is very satisfying working in a large group of other Reiki practitioners. It’s a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so much loving energy and to feel an almost instant connection to each other. Working together is also extremely beneficial because we can learn from each other and build a sense of community.
