Reiki; Scanning the Body’s Energy Field

Articles

10 Oct 2013

To understand the practice of ‘scanning’ we must first try to understand the principles that make it possible. Firstly, the physical body is in fact a complete energy system that creates a bio-electromagnetic energy field that surrounds the physical body in the same way that an energy field surrounds a simple magnet; it’s this energy we tune into when we scan the body. In the same way that a magnetic field has a core, the body’s core runs from the crown to the perineum along which are situated seven major energy centers known as Chakra. This bio-electromagnetic field is commonly known as the ‘aura’, and the aura is a tangible extension of those energy centers and the system as a whole.

Many philosophers and teachers believe that the aura has seven levels of refinement that directly respond to each of the Chakra, and while there may be differences in opinions as to the number of energetic layers, they all agree that disruptions in the aura can have a direct and adverse effect on the bodies energy systems and through time can manifest in the physical body as discomfort, illness or disease. Many ancient civilisations acknowledge the aura as an antenna that connects man with the subtle energies of the Universe and resonate with the Earth’s own magnetic field.

To help us further understand we need to change the way we think of matter and what we perceive as solid objects such as the human body. Science has long known that matter, be it plant, animal or mineral, reduced to its sub-atomic level reaches the point where matter and energy become indistinguishable and interchangeable. In countless tests they also discovered that the energies being examined and observed were being affected and directed by the thought processes of those carrying out the research, ‘the energy was following their intent’. Their thought processes were creating its own powerful energy field that affected how the matter/energy reacted when observed.

Through your Reiki attunements/empowerments you are given the means and knowledge to be able with practice, to scan the body’s energy field or aura. The word attunement means ‘to be in harmony with’ and we have the potential to harmonise our energy with that of others to create an ‘energy picture’ of them. Primarily our palms provide the means by which we can achieve this, powerful energy centre’s in our palms act as transmitters and receivers providing us with the information we need to achieve this. Once again science provides the proof. Researchers in China were able to measure and quantify that the palms of people involved with energy work such as healers and Chi Gung practitioners emit a combination of infrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave and infrared energy waves.

What we perceive as the physical body is one of the many layers of energy that forms the subtle bodies that we call human beings. These bodies extend out from the physical body with the layer farthest away having the highest energetic frequency. The layers closest to the body have a lower frequency and denser composition, the closer to the body the denser the energy becomes until the energy condenses to take on the form of the physical body. The physical body, matter, is the densest form of energy in all of the subtle bodies, and it’s the varying energetic fields of the subtle bodies that provide us with the information we receive during the process of scanning.

Having looked at the principles of scanning we must turn our attention to the practice, and the differing ways of developing the intuitive skills necessary to understand the information we received during the scanning process. Development of any intuitive skill requires patience, perseverance and practice in equal measure. It also requires an acceptance from you that the answers you require from the ‘information’ you’ve received will come with experience. For your intuitive skills to grow and develop, you must acknowledge their existence and trust in them.

We each have within us a wealth of cellular memory, wisdom, knowledge and understanding that is part of our genetic inheritance, your intuitive skills is a legacy to you. Your attunement awakened them but it’s up to you to cultivate them and use them, for the more they are used the stronger they become. In using your intuitive ability for the good of others you show respect to those gifts, and respect to those who have gone before you, that you may gain knowledge and understanding.

Many books and teachers will advise you to follow a set procedure when you start to scan the energy body. There is nothing wrong with looking at different ways of carrying out the scanning exercise, but you should remember that books and the information they provide are merely sign posts to show the way. Sign posts by their very nature are a fixed point of reference, a fixed position on a never ending journey of development, but only you can make that journey. Only you can walk the path to knowledge and understanding and that will begin when you start to use the gifts that you have been given. Intuition by definition means ‘Immediate understanding by the mind without reasoning’, and by this definition we face a paradox of not being able to use reasoning, rationalisation or logic to define it for you. Words either written or spoken can’t describe the process or that moment of intuitive insight, words by their very nature are finite symbols and sounds trying to define the infinite, the limited trying to encompass the limitless.

There is only one way of experiencing your intuitive abilities and that is to experience them, understanding not with the mind but with the heart, the centre from which all intuition comes. Listen to your teachers, learn how they developed their intuitive skills and then practice the principles they have taught you. Then put away the books, put down the notes and put into practice that which you have been taught building your own catalogue of experiences and their relevant ‘meaning’ to you, in the process. Your perception is unique to you for there is no such thing as objective reality and even our intuition is subjective until we learn to define and refine our interpretation of the intuitive information we receive. All knowledge and understanding is an internal realisation to an external stimulation. The answers are within; they always have been and always will be.

Intuition; the immediate understanding without the need or desire to reason, all you have to do is accept that which is given freely and unconditionally. Take time to find that inner place of peace and tranquility, then become aware of the universe around us, and within us, in truth they are one and the same. Be still in mind, body and spirit and know that you are at one with all things. In this moment when we experience a ‘stillness of spirit’ we can begin to experience our intuition in the truest sense of the word.

I have been using reike for myself everyday and when someone is sick I do try to use distant healing but I feel I need to learn more and until I am stable with the master distant healing before I can do with a bit of help from my master. I love to keep going and I do love reike because I know I can help someone if need be s I love to learn more.

Hi Gloria, here’s are thought for you to consider, how about learning less and doing more. Even though we haven’t met I know you already have the necessary skills and abilities (and most importantly the desire) to help others. Energy follows intent, its as simple as that, you don’t need symbols or rituals to send distant healing you simple have to have the intent for healing to go to the person. You then need to let go of any desired outcome which can be the hardest thing to do. You send it and then let it go ( a bit like posting a letter, once you let go of the package you have to trust it will be delivered).

learning is good but its only part of it, trust and let go of the healing and the outcome, keep it real but more importantly keep it fun and enjoyable and develop your own way of using Reiki. Remember it all works. keep up the good work…. Phillip

    Namaste Phillip,

I do have a question for you, if you don’t mind?
What in your opinion is the ‘ideal’ way of living for a Reiki Channel – in terms of food, clothes, materialism…?
Is it essential to give up on very many things in life to attain the state of a healer?

Please, correct me if am wrong.

    Thank you 🙂

Vedant, firstly thank you for taking the time to post your comment and your question, both are received with thanks and gratitude.
Let me answer your question by asking you a question. What is it that you like and enjoy as a person and as a Reiki practitioner? Reiki or the creative power that is the wellspring from which Reiki flows does not judge us, judgement is a human charateristic, Reiki simply accepts us as we are and works with what is available to it. Part of the self healing process is the realisation that there is no ideal this side of life, there is only ‘different’ and different is ok. The secret is balance in as many things as we can manage without beating ourselves up in the process, and any point of balance is arrived at from a point of being out of balance. The meaning of life is what ever you as an individual want it to be, its that simple but don’t waste your time thinking to much about who or what a Reiki person should be, just be you as you are here and now and enjoy the process without being critical of any percieved short comings. If you are serious about your Reiki get rid of the seriousness and replace it with fun, laughter and joyfulness. When we get serious about things we tend to pull strange faces and lose perspective and forget the principles and values we were attracted to in the first place. If Reiki is important to you you don’t have to worry to much about getting rid of stuff, it will simply fall away as you develop and grow. If you have many blessings in your life be greatful and enjoy them and give thanks. Reiki has help me change my life beyond all recognition and many times others were aware of those changes before I was, which indicates they were taking place without effort from me and were part of a natural (healing) process. I like to think I am a nice person with not to many vices but God help anyone who comes between me and my chocolate….. Hope this helps. Don’t be a stranger, let me know how you are getting on

Phillip, this has been long pending but thank you so, so very much. your response made me feel at home. All this while, I have always loved being in Reiki, with Reiki! But with day-to-day life, certain questions cropped up. I have always had immense faith in Reiki, the slight dis-belief in my own self had been cleared and restored by your insightful explanation.

‘Thank you’ feels small, but THANK YOU.
        Stranger? No, never 🙂

    Phillip,
I really loved this article, impeccable timing. I am a new Reiki practitoner I have probably given Reiki 12 x on others and on myself daily. I so want to be a healer and totally place my heart in Reiki but then the question sometimes pops up who do I think I am that I can be that person? Then it kind of throws me off..So I love your response…….let go and let it flow….:)……thanks..:)….Do you have a website or Facebook page to follow?

      Hi Nikki
Thank you for taking the time to read the article and your kind words. I’m so pleased I have been able to help in some small way. If your heart is right (doing things for the right reason) then the rest will follow but don’t over think. Our thought process allows us to think about things but… and its a big but.. our ability to think only allows us to revisit what we already know this is why knowledge and understanding requires more than just thinking about things. There has to be a resonance between ourselves and that which we hope to learn, and if we think of knowledge and understanding as two halves of the same whole (think of the Yin/Yang symbol) then knowledge resonates within us and if we are sensitive enough we can feel it in mind body and spirit as quickening/warmth/happiness/expanssion and its from this point that our understanding begins to develop and grow.

Knowledge isn’t about the collection of stuff/data/facts knowledge is about how you use what you have learnt, knowledge without meaningful expression is pointless, we must allow what we have learnt to express itself in how we live our lives that way we are defined by our beliefs and actions and we can reach a point in our physical and spiritual development where we can say….if we need to… but even that will fall away as we allow our actions to speak for themselves….this is who I am.

Why follow me on facebook…I would rather we walked side by side on our journey of self development that way we can teach each other. In case you have missed it my email is philhawkins11@gmail.com (thats phil with one I in my email address) don’t be a stranger and let me know how you are doing. If I can help in any way please don’t hesitate to get in touch

Thank you soo much for your article Philip I loved it and it makes so much sense to me. Sometimes I over think things but your article has just reminded me that I need to just “be” and trust and listen to my intuition more, that gut instinct that when heard never let’s us down. I am relatively new to Reiki but so grateful that I now have it in my life and even more blessed that I get to witness the transformation in others.

Thank you again for your article, love and hugs Jen

      Hi Jen
Thank you for the kind comments. So pleased the article was able to help in some small way. Although Reiki can be given in many ways which includes the written word we need to remember that Reiki energy is just that and it does exactly what it says on the tin. We can sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that the books and Reiki manuals are Reiki themselves that we can pick then up and say ‘this is Reiki’ its isn’t. In the east they have a spiritual teaching that says ‘The way (Tao) that can be named is not the way’ if we use the same analogy we can say that ‘The Reiki that can be written is not Reiki’ this is why we have to experience it and not just read about it.

Think of the written word as a signpost on your journey….. and Reiki as the experience itself. Hope this helps. My email address is philhawkins11@gmail.com don’t be a stranger and let me know how you are getting on, or if I can be of any further help.

      Hi Jayne
Firstly let me say that any help I offer here is simply the first step in finding an answer to the problem you have identified. Whatever you have tried hasn’t worked, if it had we wouldn’t be having this conversation. So you must do something different to find the solution.

If you are scanning people and picking up their stuff my advice is to stop immediately and leave it alone until you are better prepared and in a better frame of mind. Just having ability without the underpinning knowledge and understanding can be a dangerous thing regardless of whatever skill you may have. If you are simply soaking up other peoples energy then we need to help you develop self discipline and control which is a pre-requisite for any kind of channeling work.

My email is philhawkins11@gmail.com should you wish to contact me so that we can discuss this at length.

Contrary to popular belief we are not put on this earth to suffer. We are here to learn develop and grow and avoiding unnecessary suffering is one of the first steps in our personal development. Take time to conduct a reality check; look at your life, all aspects of your life and start to get rid of the negativity the ‘crap’ that you find. Take a good look around and what you see is a reflection and projection of what is going on inside of you on all levels.

Once your mind body and spirit are balanced and working in unison other peoples energy won’t be strong enough to touch you.

I’m here if you need to talk further.

      Regards

I wish I had a pound for every time I questioned my own ability. Its natural and in some ways its a necessary part of our development, if we don’t question how are we going to learn and move forward. You need to relax and don’t take things so serious, its meant to be fun and enjoyable. Relax and it will happen, its only your tension that is restricting the flow of information that you are looking for.

You will be fine but please stop being so hard on yourself

Remember the only person we can heal is ourselves so we must begin with ourselves and then educate others in order that they can take responsibility for their own healing.
