When we are in medium of healing, we are often selfless. We tend to let go of certain things and sometimes get emotional. If our close friend of family member asks us for any spiritual help, without pondering, we say ‘Yes’.
Whilst, it is quite a noble thing to do for people who cannot afford our services or are in dire needs – it is not advisable to do it for everyone. Simply because energy exchange never happens free and there has to be some kind of energy exchange or fee to be paid to the Reiki therapist.
Apart from it, other factors make it more necessary to ask for fees are:
-
To Stop It Being Taken For Granted
I have often found in my practice that when I do any energy exchange whether small or big – people tend to take it for granted. If I do not charge any fee, they think that I am incapable of doing it and therefore, avoid fees. Or if they benefit from my services, they will develop a habit of rendering it for free because I was the one who enabled it.
In any scenario, it is ideal for the therapist to break this vicious circle. It may upset your ongoing clients because of their habituation towards free Reiki healing. It may create a sense of discomfort within you as any back numbers of clients are threating. Yet in long run, healthy practice will provide rewards to you!
Take a stand whether you want to do it free or want to charge. There are no doubt many selfless healers but they are such because of their choice. If providing free Reiki or any other spiritual healing makes you unauthenticated to your inner energy – you are hampering and insulting your own spirit and angels.
Choose wisely.
-
To Complete the Incomplete Process
Reiki is two-way communication. If someone asks for it then you provide it. Of course self-healing, healing your family members and your office/home are different things. When it comes to healing others; you have to be careful in sending them Reiki.
If a third party asks you to send Reiki to someone, they know; without the person consent, the Reiki would not benefit them. We, Reiki therapists are medium and the client is the receiver. Therefore, a readiness should be inside client. He/ she should want to heal one selves. We cannot send endless Reiki without their ‘Yes’ as it will leave the process incomplete.
It will be one way where you are trying to enter and there is restriction ahead. Just like one-way roads, we need permission before sending our Reiki healing to other person. And for this reason or any other reasons, the Reiki doesn’t work, we, healers feel hesitant to take money. Therefore, coming back to our first point.
-
To Pay Our Bills
Reiki Healers are human too. We too need to pay our bills, run our house, and need money to sustain our being. By indulging in over selfless service, it becomes difficult to survive. Unless you have a backup job to fulfill your needs or you have renounced the world. No matter how crude it sounds but spiritual journey is not free.
-
To Keep Our Mind Free From Any Negative Emotions
Being human, we are bound to feel anger or irritation, or agitation if our hard work isn’t paid off. Similarly, while doing Reiki, somewhere a thought of being unsatisfied will cross our mind. Whether we think about it or someone else feeds it into it. Any negative emotion of this kind can dampen our energy and stop us growing spiritually. Therefore, not to have any hindrance in your journey, it is better to take money for exchanging your energy.
Keep your energy and work clean by having little, if not, your regular amount in exchange of Reiki.
Love. Light. Peace.

Is it appropriate to accept payment in a form other than money, like a bartering system. If someone cannot afford the service or it makes the healer uncomfortable to charge could the receiver offer a meal, home grown vegetables, etc?
Hi Colleen,
Yes. You can go in for Barter system. If you are getting any other services in return of your spiritual practices, you are free to indulge in that. The entire idea of having something in return is to keep the energy exchange clean without letting you feel “let down” or “taken for granted.”
