There are days when it seems emotions move from one extreme to another, flip-flopping back and forth. You can receive upsetting news about a family member’s declining health and feel concerned and sad. Within a few hours, you’re informed of a promotion at work, coming with a large raise. Then, you receive a phone call from the school that your son is not doing well in math – but he is exceptional in science. It feels like your nerves, and your blood pressure, have risen and fallen throughout the day.
Reiki is the great equalizer. It helps us to find that calm place when events from the outside world are bouncing all around us. During a client’s session a few months ago, I was blessed with a vision about her energy level. The vision was that she was walking through a storm, with leaves, branches and assorted pieces of trash swirling around her. But, no items touched her and she was not affected by the blowing winds – even her clothing and hair stayed perfectly still. It was like she was living within a zone of peacefulness, not affected at all by the outside world. Her energy was calm and quiet.
When I described this scene to her, she laughed, stating it depicted her current situation well. Even though there was chaos in her workplace, and sad events in her family circle, she had set the intention to bring a sense of serenity to the people in her life, and to her environment. She maintained this balance through Reiki self-treatments and meditative practices. The reason she scheduled the session with me was to be able to relax into Reiki, not thinking about anything at all. She simply wanted to absorb the healing energies, to assist her further in staying calm.

We talked about how Reiki can be utilized to find balance in all aspects of our lives. She talked about the process of how she reached this peaceful plateau – the steps she had taken to build and maintain this zone of peacefulness. While it is as simple as awareness, intention and action, there were times when she would “slip” out of the zone and join in the atmosphere of anxiety created within herself and by the people around her. Again, she had to become aware of her emotions, set the intention and take action. In her case, she would use self-Reiki to find the calmness again and return to the zone.
It sounds so easy! But, it’s not always easy. The first step, awareness, can be the most difficult one, as we get caught up in the drama of an event. We can get swept up in the emotions of it – whether it is sadness, frustration, anger, or not knowing what to do. Learning to identify our emotions, and dealing with them, are the key ingredients. Reiki can help us to build awareness of our thoughts and beliefs which then affect our emotional responses.
One of the great lessons of living within the awareness of Universal Life Force Energy is there is always an abundance of support and unconditional love. As we become more and more connected to this Energy, there is a wonderful effect of finding this zone of peacefulness – and living there most of the time. What a beautiful blessing Reiki is!
