Question by Lori:
Hi,
I have been distantly attuned to the Masters Level, yet distance attunements are still widely rejected in mainstream Reiki. I wonder if you could tell me why that is, and hopefully this will change soon.
Answer by Angie Webster:
Hi Lori. This is Angie Webster with Reiki Rays. Thank you for your question. You have asked why distant attunements are often rejected by many. The reasons for this vary from person to person, but I can share a few reasons that some are skeptical about distant Reiki training.
These days, there are many different ways for a person to be trained in Reiki. Typically, when a person is distantly attuned, they only receive the attunements. They don’t receive any training or class practice time. They often don’t have a personal connection with their Reiki teacher or any way to ask questions they may have. That is not always the case nowadays, as there are a few teachers that offer online Reiki classes with much of the same Reiki training that they offer in their in-person classes. However, even in these situations, the possibilities for Reiki practice with the teacher present are limited.
Another issue that many people have is that with distant attunement, all of the attunements are typically given all at once with no adjustment period or a period of practice between attunements, even between level 2 and the Master level. Though teachers vary on their opinions, many teachers feel this practice period and the adjustment period are important to Reiki practice.
Some feel skeptical about distant attunements because they often don’t believe they work. You can understand why this may be the case, since it is difficult to explain how a distant treatment works, especially to the general public. Distant attunements are even more difficult to comprehend for many.
While it certainly seems possible to do a distant attunement, just as it is to do a distant treatment, Reiki training is about more than the attunements. It is really a good thing to have the support of a helpful teacher in person. That being said, if it is not possible to find a Reiki teacher in your area and no other means are possible for training, there are circumstances that certainly call for distant training and attunement. We now have the tools to train students online through Skype and other means and creativity can be employed to resolve the practice issues. If it’s well done, this can be an option, especially for the first two levels. Whether your class is in-person or on online, it’s a really good idea to make sure that your teacher is well trained and uses Reiki often, especially on themselves.
Thanks again for your question and many blessings.
I have distance attunements for Reiki II and Reiki IIa-b. And it has worked.
