One of the nicest ways to feel the movement of energy in your body is through movement. Even if you aren’t able to move your body very freely due to an injury or illness, there are very gentle movements that can be done, standing, sitting or even lying down that will help you open the flow life force energy in your body and clear blockages.
If you are conscious of the sensations of energy as you do these movements, you will become more aware of the way that Reiki feels as it accumulates and flows through you. It can help you to better understand what it feels like when energy is flowing freely and when energy is constricted in an area of the body. By the time you are finished with the movements, you will feel refreshed and your energy will be moving a bit more freely.
As with any energy healing technique, intention is very important. Before you begin, set your intention to use your body to connect with Universal Life Force. This is not a complicated process. It is only a matter of taking a moment to let that be your intention for these exercises. You could do that by taking a deep breath and letting your mind clear of mental chatter and letting the intention to connect be your primary focus for the next few minutes.
If you are able to stand and you wish to do so, then start by standing with your feet about hip distance apart, knees soft, not locked and your spine relaxed but straight. If you are unable to stand or prefer not to, then sit or lie down comfortably, with your spine as straight as possible. It is a good idea to have some part of your body on the floor if you can, so if you are sitting, then your feet can be on the floor. If you can’t do this, then you can simply imagine that your feet or your hips are connecting with the ground.
To begin connecting with Universal Life Force, imagine your body as an antenna or a tree. See the base going deep into the Earth and receiving energy from the Divine Mother Life Force there. See the top going upward, into the sky or the Heavens and receiving energy from the Divine Father Life Force that is present there.
As you do each movement, connect the movement to the breath. Imagine that the breath and the movement are both moving energy through your body, gathering it from the Universe as your hands move through space and as your breath moves air in and out of your body.
- Start with your hands in prayer position.
- Allow the hand to gently float up overhead as you breathe in.
- Continue floating the arms up in an arc out to the sides as you breathe out, as though you are scooping down Heavenly energy around your aura.
- Let your arms float the energy all the way to your feet, if you are able. If not, then simply use your intention to carry the energy there.
- Do this movement 3 times.
Continue to follow the movement with your breath for the next movement.
- Make a scooping motion toward the Earth with your hands as you breathe in, as if you are gathering energy upward toward yourself from Mother Earth.
- Scoop the energy toward your head and face as you continue your inhalation.
- As you exhale, pour the energy you have received over your head and down your body with a smooth and gentle sweeping/pouring motion.
- Do this movement 3 times.
For the last movement, begin with your hands at prayer position once more.
- As you exhale, open your hands outward from the prayer position and away from your body, as though you are sending your loving heart energy out into the world, sharing what you have just received from Divine Mother and Father. Repeat 3 times.
- As you inhale, bring your hands back in to prayer position, showing that you complete the cycle of giving and receiving by being open to receiving the love of others and the love of the Universe. Repeat 3 times.
