Reiki for World Crises

In the past few days, there have been numerous news reports on the effects of the earthquake in Nepal. It is a devastating tragedy, as homes, businesses and villages have been totally demolished, and the numbers of those who died and those injured continue to rise, hour by hour. While we know that Reiki energies can bring healing to these terrible events, let’s explore the many possibilities of bringing love and light to this nation. One unique way to do this is to apply our knowledge of the chakra system to the effects of this earthquake.

The first chakra, the root chakra, is concerned with issues of stability, security and groundedness. Certainly, the Nepalese survivors are feeling anything but stable and secure at this time. Many of them are living outside, having no shelter to provide protection from the elements. Or, they feel too insecure to return to their homes. Food and clean water is hard to find. Perhaps, you can make a financial contribution to those charities who are delivering those supplies. You can send Reiki to all those working to make sure basic needs are met.

The next chakra, the sacral chakra, addresses close relationships, creating new life and living in the flow of life. It must seem as if the normal occurrences of everyday life came to a complete halt, in the matter of a few minutes. How many people are still looking for loved ones? How many people have already discovered the still body of a loved one? Every single person who has died was part of a family, a mother or father, brother or sister, parent or child. Families have changed, overnight. You can send Reiki to all those who are grieving a loved one. You can send Reiki with the intention of assisting these sorrowful people in the task of forging a new life.

The solar plexus chakra emanates authentic power and will. This must be very difficult to feel when one is faced with the monumental task of starting over. Thousands and thousands of loving beings will be faced with the challenge of carving out new lives, in the weeks, months and years ahead. When I think about this, I wonder, “Where does a person begin? How do you rebuild a life, when everything is gone? Are there jobs? How could you even find materials to build a new home?” The list goes on…. Just thinking of these concerns is mind-boggling, truly overwhelming. You can send Reiki to all those who need to find the will and strength to move forward with their lives.

Connecting with the heart chakras of all those affected is a powerful way to bring healing to this tragedy. Because Reiki has no limits, you have the ability to touch the heart of every single person involved – survivor and emergency worker alike. Simply close your eyes, state your intention, extend your hands and send Reiki to the heart of each affected person during these trying days. Let them know they are loved and supported; they are not alone nor forgotten. Send your empathy, your compassion, your warmth.

The throat chakra creates a voice to our intentions. Be vocal and get active, do whatever you can. If you are able to give time and money, do so. Check out the websites of the many charitable organizations who are responding to this event, and see what the needs are. If you think your government should be doing more, voice your opinion. Send Reiki to all the organizations and governments who are helping those in need.

The third eye chakra is our seat of knowledge and intuition. We know there is a reason why these natural disasters are occurring more frequently, with greater devastation, with each passing year. We know Mother Earth is suffering from too much human greed, and neglect, resulting in catastrophic environmental conditions. Please send Reiki to the large corporations making the most significant impacts. And, let us not forget, to send Reiki to each of us. Each of us can do more to recreate a healthy Mother Earth. Let us make responsible decisions, in our own individual lives, every day. Let us make a real difference.

And last, but certainly not least, is the crown chakra, the center of our spiritual connection. Our communication with Spirit – whether we call it prayer, meditation, devotion – is absolutely essential. For many of us, the experience of Reiki is the most powerful way to connect to Spirit. Use it often – and use it to bring peace and harmony back to our beautiful planet.

In a few weeks, sadly, another event will replace this earthquake on the nightly news. It will become easy to forget these people who will continue to struggle with grief and rebuilding lives. Here are some ways to remember: Write a list of worldly concerns and send Reiki to items on the list daily. Send Reiki to all people and nations who are dealing with difficult circumstances (there are many that we have little, or no, awareness of!). Use a globe or world map to mark areas of great strife, and send Reiki to those spots. Or, better yet, create a method that resonates with you.

As Reiki practitioners, we have a gift to bring to the entire world. We are called to use Reiki for individuals in our own, small circles. And, we are called to use Reiki for all people on earth.
