When something huge shifts or changes in our lives, we have to learn how to live in a new way. The way that we were living before is no longer available, so we have no choice but to find a new path. We all have these shifts in our lives, through many different things–divorces, changes in our health, death and loss of loves ones, moves to a new home, or even a loss of a limb. Some of these things may happen suddenly and others more gradually, but we all have change and we all experience loss.
It can be very difficult to imagine moving ahead in life, continuing to do the things we do day to day, after such a loss. Many of the things we do each day will either change or will at least be experienced differently. The adjustment is often quite painful and grief is a very real thing. Our grieving process after any loss should be honored and not rushed. Each person experiences their process differently and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Healing will unfold as when it’s ready.
Reiki can support us during a change or loss, as we go through the grieving process. It can help us to find a path into a way of being, after the loss. It can bring comfort and a greater sense of peace, allowing the healing process to begin naturally.
Even if you are a Reiki practitioner, if you are experiencing deep grief, it will probably be very beneficial to you to receive the support of a Reiki share group and some ongoing private Reiki sessions for a little while. Doing self Reiki will help you a great deal, and that is a wonderful thing to continue doing, but you may find that the adding support of other healers as you go through your own healing is very uplifting.
You can do the following exercise either alone, as a guided meditation (consider recording it to listen to later) or as part of your self Reiki practice. No symbols are necessary, but you may use any you like.
Grief Meditation for Healing
Envision that white or golden light is pouring down upon you, like a warm and healing shower. See it flowing into your mind and your heart, bringing peace. This light is a balm to your soul. It knows exactly where your pain is and how to soothe it. Allow it to do so. There may be some part of you that wants to hold on to the pain so that you will not let go of your beloved memory or loved one. Allow the healing light to reassure you that you are meant to be at peace and be healed. This light knows that there is no good to come of you being in pain. It is fine to let it go whenever you are ready to do so.
Allow the healing golden or white light to continue flowing through your mind and heart, eventually allowing it flow through your entire body. Feel the warmth pulsing through you as you welcome the healing. When you are ready, allow the lovely healing light to envelop your entire body. See it expanding out around you, softly pulsing and glowing in the most soothing energy you have ever known. It is blanketing you in healing and protection. You can feel that it will be with you, continuing your inner healing, even after you remove your attention from it and end this exercise.
