Decoding the Teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui

My dear Reiki channels, as we celebrate Dr. Mikao Usui’s birthday this month on 15th August, let’s honor the Grandmaster and cherish his teachings that he bestowed on us. We all study and teach about his life and how he brought Reiki to the world; we follow the instructions and experience the power of this divine energy.

Here, I want to emphasize certain aspects of his teachings that have a bigger impact than what initially we would have thought about.

Gratitude is the biggest force in the universe. The more we are thankful, the more we receive from the universe. He knew this, as did all other spiritual masters, and he included this right in the beginning of Reiki invocation. We start by expressing gratitude to ourselves (instant recognition of self-worth) and follow by expressing gratitude to Reiki, masters, parents, and so on… thus beginning the Reiki session with the most powerful force. Even if we don’t sincerely feel the gratitude, just repeating the words sets in motion the highest energies. He made it so simple.

When we channel Reiki or give attunements, the feedback and responses from people are stunning at times. People witness heightened energy states, out-of-body experiences, myriads of colors, shapes, lights, etc. They often want to remain in this state much longer after a treatment or attunement is over. This state, in general, is witnessed after deep meditations or consistent spiritual practice for a long duration of time that aligns the mind, body, and spirit into one. However, with Reiki by our side, we witness this state instantly in the simplest manner.

Dr. Mikao Usui reinforced the fact that a single person driven by passion and dedication can make a colossal change that touches millions of lives. In his quest for this divine, mystical superpower that could heal and transform lives, he faced a lot of struggles, disappointments, unable to find answers. Ultimately, he surrendered to the energy itself and underwent the 21-day fasting period that was hard on the body as well as the mind. Finally, the universe rewarded him with the knowledge and power of Reiki, and he became our beloved master who introduced Reiki to us. Although he himself went through an exhausting process, he never intended that his disciples should also go through this. He made the learning and practicing so simple and accessible to everyone who has a desire for it.

Reiki is a spiritually guided energy. All attuned with this divine energy feel the upliftment and heightened spiritual state while practicing Reiki in everyday life. Sometimes there comes a dilemma in our minds that if we are heading forward on this beautiful journey that is guiding us spiritually, do we need to renounce worldly desires? Do we need to lead a life that is more pious, detached, righteous, and tilted towards the divine spiritual path? Do we need to change the way we live? The answer that our Grandmaster gives is ‘NO’. You don’t need to change anything; Reiki will bring what is best for you without you sacrificing anything you love in your life. Reiki won’t take you out from a dark place; it will lighten up the place so that there’s no darkness left. As we live as humans on this dual plane called Earth, we can balance spiritual abundance and material prosperity together.

As we reflect back on his life and lessons, these wonderful takeaways bring a smile to each Reiki channel’s face. We are so blessed to be a Reiki channel on Earth and so blessed to have Dr. Mikao Usui as our mentor and guide on this journey.
