In the previous article, “Unveiling the Japanese Techniques Part I,” we discussed the Japanese techniques that accompany Reiki, including the well-known Kenyoku. There are other additional techniques originating from the early days of Reiki that are highly valuable due to their effectiveness.
In this second part, we will delve into two more techniques that you can incorporate into your practice to achieve deeper and transformative results. These techniques have the potential to further enhance the therapeutic effects of Reiki and bring about complete energetic balance.
The Concept of Tanden
In the “modern” form in which Reiki is taught, or in the more popular Reiki schools, we focus on energy centers in the body known as Chakras. However, in this article, it is necessary to explore the energetic center called Tanden.
In the Japanese tradition, the term “tanden” refers to a concept related to the energy and anatomy of the human body. Tanden is considered the center of energy and physical power, located in the abdomen approximately two to three centimeters below the navel and slightly inward. It is in a position similar to the second Chakra or Sacral Chakra.
According to Japanese philosophy, the tanden is regarded as the point of origin of vital energy or “ki” in the body. Both Japanese martial arts and spiritual and meditative practices emphasize that directing one’s breath and attention towards the tanden can help calm the mind, strengthen the body, and cultivate a deeper connection with oneself and the universe.
The following techniques require a focus on this energetic point.
Jaki Kiri Joka Ho
This can be translated as “Purification Method to Eliminate Malevolent Spirits” or “Purification Method to Eliminate Negative Energy.”
The Jaki Kiri Joka Ho technique focuses on cutting and releasing negative energy that may be affecting an object or person. This approach is particularly useful when working with places or individuals that accumulate dense or negative energies.
Procedure:
- Place your dominant hand about five centimeters above the object or person you wish to cleanse.
- Perform three horizontal cuts in the air with your hand, visualizing how you are cutting and releasing the negative energy. After the third cut, stop the motion abruptly.
- Maintain your attention on the tanden and hold your breath.
- Visualize exhaling through the center of your head, releasing the energy in all directions.
- Visualize inhaling Reiki energy through the center of your head, directing it to the heart chakra, and feel it for a moment.
- Exhale from the heart chakra, allowing the energy to flow outward in all directions.
- Inhale energy from all directions to the heart chakra, send it to the root chakra, and feel it there for a moment.
- Finally, exhale from the root chakra, sending the energy outward in all directions.
Repeat this exercise three times to ensure complete cutting and releasing of negative energy.
Continue with the following breathing patterns:
- Inhale while maintaining focus on the tanden.
- Visualize exhaling through the Root Chakra, releasing the energy in all directions.
- Visualize inhaling through the Heart Chakra from all directions.
- Send the energy to the Crown Chakra, feel the energy there for a moment, and exhale, sending the energy in all directions.
Repeat this breathing pattern three times and continue with the next one.
- Inhale while maintaining focus on the tanden.
- Visualize exhaling through the Root Chakra, releasing the energy in all directions.
- Visualize inhaling through the Sacral Chakra from all directions.
- Visualize inhaling through the Solar Plexus Chakra from all directions.
- Visualize inhaling through the Third Eye Chakra from all directions.
- Send the energy to the Crown Chakra, feel the energy there for a moment, and exhale, sending the energy in all directions.
Now, repeat the basic exercise once more:
- Visualize exhaling through the center of the head, releasing the energy in all directions.
- Visualize inhaling Reiki energy through the center of the head, directing it to the heart chakra, and feel it for a moment.
- Exhale from the heart chakra, allowing the energy to flow outward in all directions.
- Inhale energy from all directions to the heart chakra, send it to the root chakra, and feel it there for a moment.
- Finally, exhale from the root chakra, sending the energy outward in all directions.
Conclude with the Gassho position and give thanks to the spiritual beings who accompanied you.
Tandem Chiryo-Ho:
Method for detoxifying the body and emotions
Tandem Chiryo-Ho is a valuable technique for eliminating both physical and mental-emotional toxins from the body. Physical toxins can include germs, poisons, or chemical vapors, while mental toxins refer to toxic thoughts, depression, unhealthy habits, or negativity. Emotional toxins encompass difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, or distress. This technique can be performed on oneself or on others, and it focuses on releasing and detoxifying the energy system.
Procedure:
- Sit or stand comfortably near the person receiving the treatment, if you are performing it on someone else.
- Place your hands in the Gassho position, with palms together in front of your chest, to calm your mind and focus on the intention of the treatment.
- Silently say, “I begin Tandem Chiryo-Ho” to establish a connection with Reiki energy.
- Set the intention for this particular treatment by mentally stating which toxins you wish to eliminate. For example, “I intend to eliminate the emotional toxins affecting (full name).”
- Place one hand three to four centimeters below the navel, in the tanden area, and the other hand on the forehead, over the third eye.
- Feel the energy in the hand on the forehead and silently ask Reiki to eliminate all toxins from the body.
- Maintain this position for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the energy to flow and cleanse the energetic system.
- Then, gently remove the hand from the forehead and place both hands on each side of the tanden.
- Allow Reiki energy to flow into the tanden for 20 to 30 minutes, facilitating deep detoxification and energetic restoration.
- Finally, return to the Gassho position, express gratitude… (end of translation)
