Fourteen Tips for In Person Healing

Articles

4 Jul 2015

Article by Haripriya Suraj, Reiki Master

Do you offer in person healing to others? Are you new to Reiki and looking for tips on offering Reiki to others?

The following tips may help you offer the best Reiki treatments to your clients, friends and family.

Practise

You can begin to offer healing to others upon completion of the 21 day cleansing period that follows your Level 1 attunement. However, it would be good for you to practise sufficiently for a few days before you start offering Reiki to others. Initially, you can practise on people who are already attuned. If that is not feasible, you can practise on a large doll/teddy bear. Once you are thorough with the hand positions, you can start offering free treatments to close family (such as parents, spouse, children, siblings etc) and to the people in your close friends’ circle. Giving healing to the people you are most comfortable with will not only help them relax and feel pampered, but it will also help you grow in confidence. Remember to take their feedback after every session. Once you are confident, you can also start offering healing to others.

Prepare the Space

It is good to have a clean private space for your healing sessions. You will need a couch/massage table in this area for your client to lie down. Before your client arrives, cleanse the healing area by burning some incense and lighting a few candles. You can also cleanse the entire house/ healing centre. This will keep the energy even purer. It you have pictures of Angels, Ascended Masters and other Higher Beings that you connect well with, bring them out and place them in your healing area. Have some drinking water ready for both your client and you. Play some calming music in the background.

Prepare Yourself

In order to attain maximum benefit from the session, your client must feel a sense of trust in you. People can read your energy. So, make sure you are in a calm frame of mind and are not carrying mental-emotional baggage with you. If you were upset over something that happened in the morning or yesterday, remember that this is not your client’s problem. They are paying you for your services and your heart and soul must be in what you offer. If you sense any negative energy in your aura, it would be good to meditate or give yourself some Reiki well before your client arrives.

Welcome your Client

Greet your client with a smile and make them feel welcome!

Discuss

You are likely to have discussed your client’s issue before fixing up a healing appointment. However, you can briefly run through it again before commencing the session. Let your client know that all they need to do is relax and allow the energy to work on them. Take the time to answer their questions and address their concerns.

Drink Water and Wash Hands

Both you and your client must drink some water before starting. This will help flush out any toxins that are released during the process of healing. You also get a Reiki treatment when you offer one. So, make sure you drink water too.

It would also be good for you to wash your hands with soap and water before you begin. Reiki will flow even if you do not do this step. But it is nice to have clean hands before offering healing to others. Clean hands also feel more sensitive to the flow of energy.

Begin Healing

Once your client is ready, begin the session. Following the procedure you were taught in your Level 1 class, give Reiki to each of the chakras and end the session with grounding.

Trust your Intuition

As you give Reiki, allow your intuition to be your guide. When you feel that a particular chakra has received enough energy, trust that feeling and move on to the next position. The more you trust your intuition, the stronger it will grow.

In case you receive any sort of intuitive guidance for your client, make a note of it mentally or on paper, so you can discuss it later.

Allow time for Rest

Clients are often asleep by the end of a Reiki session. If this happens, allow them to rest for a while. Do not forcefully wake them up once you complete your part. Profound healing happens in the sleep state. So, let them stay asleep for as long as it is practically feasible for you, after which you can wake them up gently.

Drink Water

Give them a few moments more to feel grounded. Then have them drink lots of water and sit still for a while. Remember to drink some water yourself.

Discuss your Findings

Give your client feedback on the session. Share the impressions that you received with them. Let them know about the chakras/ body parts that needed maximum attention. Always offer feedback in a way that empowers people. Even if you sensed blockages, you can share your findings in a positive light and also offer tips on how they can be healed. Encourage your client to share his or her feedback as well. That way you may be able to correlate what you found with what your client felt. Keep in mind that this correlation will not always happen as people sense energy in different ways. So, do not worry if you felt plenty of heat over a certain chakra but your client felt nothing. It does not mean that either of you is wrong. Just share your findings and do your job to the best of your ability. Also share any guidance you received for them during the session.

Homework

If intuitive guidance was received for your client, encourage them to begin working on it right away. For instance, if your client was guided to eat a healthier diet, encourage them to take small steps towards the same. If they were guided to slow down and spend more time alone, encourage them to make time for themselves on a daily basis. Tell them to make these changes right away, before they come in for the next session.

Schedule Follow Up Session

Before your client leaves, schedule the next session. It would be good to schedule the next session one week apart. This will give your client enough time to integrate the energies and guidance from the first session. I normally recommend a minimum of three sessions to clients but allow room for changes depending on the case. Some people need more and some need less. You will need to assess each case and then take a call on the number of sessions required for each person.

Encourage them to Learn Reiki

Offering healing to others is a divine experience. However, nothing can be better than healing oneself independently. No matter how much of healing we may do for people, it will never be the same as they healing themselves on a daily basis. So, encourage your clients to learn Reiki. The world needs more Reiki. And that can only happen one individual at a time.
