When I started practicing Reiki on clients it took me quite a while to build confidence in my abilities and be comfortable with the fact that I was really helping people to heal. Reiki was so amazing with the deep relaxation it provided that I was in awe of it for quite some time. While in the middle of a Reiki session I would often times get messages about things that were bothering the client or where their pain was coming from. It took me awhile to actually trust these messages.
I can remember one holiday event in which I was showed a sign that ended up giving me total trust in my abilities. I was at my uncle’s house celebrating the American Thanksgiving with friends and family. While there I was introduced to my uncle’s brother who I had only seen once before as a small child. He was a perfectly nice man, well dressed and in his early 50’s. The odd thing about it was that when I looked at him it was like his entire presence was faded to me. It was as if I was looking at everyone else in color and yet he was in black and white. I didn’t understand it at the time and just brushed it off.
A few days later I found out from my uncle that his brother had suddenly and unexpectedly died of what they believed was complications with his diabetes. I immediately got goose bumps and decided from that point forward that I was going to work hard to understand the signs I was being given as a Reiki Practitioner and to stop ignoring them. I in no way believe that I could have changed the outcome for this dear man as I feel this was his exit point but it was however, my sign to trust what I am seeing.

Every Reiki Practitioner is different in how they receive signs of what is wrong with their client. Here are some basic things that are routine signs for me. It is my hope that some of them may be the same for you and that it will offer other Practitioners confidence in that yes they are really receiving signs!
Broken Heart
If a client has a broken heart or has something that is troubling their heart I feel a deep stabbing pain in my own heart and then feel my heart drop. This is my sign to give extra attention to a client’s heart chakra.
Pain
If a client has pain in any part of their body I am usually able to pick it up in the full body scan that I do at the start of the Reiki session. My hands feel a burning sensation in whatever area the client has pain. For example, if a client has knee pain I will generally feel burning around their knees.
Unsure of having Reiki
If a client wants a Reiki session but is scared of what I will pick up or is very unsure of if they actually want to experience the session then during the session I will feel that my hands are being gently pushed away by an invisible force.
An area that needs extra care
If a client is in need of more healing in a specific area I will feel like my hands are being pulled to that specific area like a magnet.
Symbols
Be open to any messages you feel you are getting for your client. Sometimes you will have a weird thought or feel emotions that aren’t yours. These are generally messages for your client or you are picking up your clients emotions. For instance one time I was doing a session on a man where I kept hearing the words, “you are blowing up like a whale, hahaha.” This was driving me nuts during the whole session and was making it very hard for me to concentrate to the point where I finally decided to mention it to my client. Instead of the client thinking that I was crazy or mean spirited they thanked me and said that was the exact sign they had asked for from their father!
Above all be open and allow yourself to trust whatever signs you are given. They could make a big difference in your own life as well as that of your clients! Wishing you all love and light.

Good Article indeed! As I am a new practitioner I have a question I hope you can help with. I recently was working on a client and found through the use of a crystal pendulum that all of her chakras were spinning backwards and the session felt as though it was fighting me the entire time. Any thoughts?
Hi Andy.
Thank you, I always love hearing that someone is getting something out of what I shared! To answer your question I have had this happen a few times. A client’s chakra’s can be overly active just the same as they can be closed. In fact, a lot of people with psychic gifts have over active 3rd eye and/or crown chakra’s! I have this on my list of topics to cover here on Reiki Rays. As you are a practitioner you most likely know what each chakra represents and what issues the client is probably experiencing. I would say that with this type of situation it is extra important to do grounding work with this client. Their enery is so high that it is pushing you (a calmer energy) back. You an still safely work on this client it just feels odd because of the sensation of being pushed away. You can also help to calm down the chakras just as you can open a closed chakra. It is quite easy. You just spin them the opposite direction of how you open them. I would do a guided meditation session with this client as well using the color blue. I recently had a session with someone and as I worked around her waist, my vision starting going in and out. I became light-headed, sweaty and I hit the floor. I never lost consciousness. I got the impression of something dark and malignant in that area. I shield because I’m sensitive to energies so I don’t think it actually caused me any damage. I recovered quickly as non asked her questions about her health. There are some issues. I talked to another Reiki practitioner who had concerns about cords in that area. My own angels and guides are telling it’s an entity that lashed out. Bizarre experience!
This a comment to Carol’s post. I had a session recently which was similar in some ways. I was doing Reiki in the lower stomach area of a women when I suddenly felt bad, more like dread and fear and saw and felt dark energy come out of her stomach. It took a little while to clear the energy and get back on track and I was able to finish the session feeling like everything was ok. This was the first session on this client, she came back the next week for another session and everything seemed normal. I don’t know what this was.

Yes there can definitley be dark things that are released during a session. This is why it is important to protect yourself before every session and clear the room afterward. There are many different ways to do this. As I am a believer in angels I always surround myself in a bubble of white light and ask that Archangel’s be with me during the healing session. If you are feeling scared about a session or what might be released during one call on Archangel Raphael and Archangel Michael to be with you. Love and light!

Hi Carol, about considerating those “bad” entities of their feelings they give us. I loved how drunvalo melchizédek describes them in the ancient secret of the Flower of Life (Tome 2). And i swear that helps me each time i feel so.. He says they’re trapped entities and if you comunicate to them explaining you can help them leaving darkness to the light most of them will apreciate and leave your client body/soul .. His technique + Reiki : Clean the belly several times with your hand (i go deeep!) and visualise an octahedron above the belly button where “they” can leave the body. Drunvalo M says depresive, drug / alccol / pills addicts etc are subjets to be invaded by entities, they enter by the rear face of the neck and can be helped to go out by the belly button. So, after a cleaning i protect my clients with power symbol there. DKM if stronger !! As Light is ALWAYS stronger than darkness. Sorry for my poor english ! Hope can be helpfull ! Perhaps important to mention that clairvoyance and spiritual experiences develop and grow with one’s Reiki practice. I’ve personally found that Karuna Reiki has bounced my healings into another realm of sensitivities, Clients who have been with me for a few years also have such experiences when I am giving Karuna reiki . One has felt another presence working on her feet while my hands are on her head. But what I’ve also experienced is messages from pets to their people when I am giving Reiki to the animal. One cat requested a carnelian crystal which I thought was to aid to the cat’s healing. But later came to know that her owner suffered from restless leg syndrome for which carnelian is a healing crystal. After telling the owner to keep a carnelian crystal in her bed, she has experienced profound relief from that suffering. Once while balancing a client’s chakras I saw an easel and paintbrushes. She works as a financial controller. After the session I asked her about hobbies and she said she used to love painting but after relocating she never got around to buying new materials and missed the peace she enjoyed while painting. She has taken up her art again and now rarely needs to come for Reiki. The messages are there . Some are just not so easy to interpret or understand .

I used reiki on myself while at the dentist and it impeded the working of the numbing solution, which needed topping up by a confused dentist. Of course I stopped.
What I need to ask is does reiki interfere with the medication and pain relief of my friends who have had operations. I want to help them but hesitate because of what might happen
Hi Helen.
Reiki does not interfere with medications, operations, etc… if anything it could have been the fear associated with whatever procedure you were having. What it does do is make the greatest good occur during the procedure. So yes, yes, YES send it to your friends! 🙂 I have always been one of the lucky ones at the dentist where the normal shot does nothing for me or only lasts about ten minutes. As my dentist says they have to give me a “special shot” to get the work done. So you may be one of the lucky few like me. 🙂 I send distance reiki to my procedure before hand to send extra positive energy and so that the greatest good occurs. I have noticed that it also makes me more relaxed knowing that I have already reikied the procedure. Hope this answer helps! I have a question, what do you think it means when I can see different layers of a person while giving Reiki? I can see the layers of their skin, muscles, all the way to their bones.

Every Reiki practitioner is different and has their own special gifts and/or way of doing things. It is deffinitly a gift and something for you to explore. Have you noticed any special meanings to exactly what you are shown and what issue the client may have going on? Think of the different layers you are being shown as a blue print giving you an extra look at how deep certain issues may be and where hidden issues may be located. Hope that helps! interesting article, I have practised level 2 on and off for over 10 yrs but an now finally free of blocks and starting to delve deeper. I feel new muscle injury as pins and needles in my hands and other older injury or desease as heat. It is becoming more powerful the more I do and infact the energy was too hot at a healing last week! I also felt bad energy it was swirling over the stomach/ heart area and by telling it to leave if it was not of the light the energy became still. I too have been afraid but have seen an angel so have faith that they will protect if asked to do so. Love to all x

What would you say if I see a crown of fire, OR if there is an image of eyes surronded by charcoal sort of thing,OR pebbles/stones/sand in the aura.Not sure how to interpret these sort.

I have recently received my atunement for reiki level 2. So all of this is new to me. Yet a exciting journey.
I gave a reiki treatment to my mom for Mother’s Day. All was going well until I came to my moms crown chakra…… I did not feel much sensations in my hands. But I felt extreme sensations in my head. Almost like I was on a see saw. Back and forth back forth. Really fast in my head. My heart was beating fast as well. And almost felt like I was going to have a panick attack. Then I realized that I need to relax and trust in reiki. So I did. those sensations in my head continued on and I relaxed and went into a meditative state unlike anything I have ever experienced. Has anyone ever experienced this?? Or know what this could mean. I have looked online and come up with nothing.

Did some Reiki & chakra clearing on a friend, didn’t get any hot spots but got a lot of heat from 3rd eye & crown chakra. Does that mean they’re areas she needs extra work or that they are stronger? Love the article. Love & Light
Hi I am new to reiki but during some sessions I see smoke coming out of clients’ bodies. Its quite bizarre but I often wonder what does it mean. Any thoughts?

I know they say the mind may be ready but your soul may not, but its really frustrating me.

That made me suffer a lot, but in time, I learned not to absorb every information.I think, it must be you, to choose what you want to know and what you don`t want to know about people, and they have the right to think, without others receiving all their signals I wish you good health.
During my reiki sessions my arms float in the arm or the middle of my back raises up. What does that mean?

I am glad to know I am not the only one who has this experience. I practice Reiki on animals at my local Humane Society and I see/hear/feel what the animal has experienced. I am not sure if I can see it or if I hear it or if I just feel it. I am then able to let the employees know so they can help the animal overcome their experience. It is truly amazing.
Does distant healing sessions work with the same intensity? Do you do them? I am in need of one.. Pls let me know! Thank you.
hello I have a question. I know that I am an empath and that I have other spiritual gifts as well. I have noticed as of late that I have been feeling on my own body where my clients pain is while I am in session (I’m a massage therapist and know very little about reiki). It has actually helped my massages to be more effective because I was knowing where their pain was before even laying hands in that area. I’m not sure why I have had this gift suddenly and why it is only with select clients. So if any insights on that come to mind would be appreciated. But my main question tonight is I just had a client with a head cold and as soon as I laid hands on her sinuses I had stabbing pain in my heart chakra right through the center of my chest and it went all the way through to my back. It was so sharp and intense it hurt to breath. I’m still trying to expell this energy as I write this. I’m still learning about what chakras mean and wonder if you can help explain to me what I was feeling.
Hi Justine, thank you so much for this article. I am 10 days into my practice, still self treating and occasionally trying it on friends or family. I am in my head a lot and got into reiki to first heal myself for anxiety and thoughts that are not serving me. It has helped gradually over the past days and I feel considerable less anxious. I have read a lot about trusting your intuition and trusting your nighter self to know what the client (and you) may need, I know that my ego gets in the way of practicing and I feel like the harder I ‘try’ to listen and trust myself to know where and how to help people, the more my ego is what is talking to me. The same goes for the feelings I get in my own body or hands while practicing on people. I guess I have a question as to do you know any techniques or have any insight as to how you decide to trust your intuition and higher self, knowing that that is what is guiding you and showing you what people need to heal rather than your own mind? Thanks again for this- it is very encouraging, and seeing someone who truly feels that their higher self and intuition is what they are able to listen to when that was difficult for them before gives me a lot of hope.
I had a reiki session as a client. The practitioner said there is anger energy. I asked if from inside me he said it is under the bed. It is from behind me. He also said Im holding on to something which I actually agreed silently. What does it mean when he said anger energy from behind. He saw no alien/ external entity when he did a scan at the start of reiki. Very interesting and relaxing. Pleasant experience. Thanks in advance.
What do static sensations mean?
Have you ever experienced a clients arms raising up during a session. This happened to me . I couldn’t believe it. Im still can’t wondering why .
