As a Reiki practitioner who has experienced the transformative benefits of this powerful healing tool, it is natural to want to share it with your loved ones – particularly the younger members of your family!
Main benefits of creating a Reiki children’s story:
- allows you to create a unique and personalized story that incorporates Reiki principles and teachings in a way that resonates with your child or grandchild;
- helps develop their language skills, improves concentration and focus, and teaches valuable life lessons;
- creating a healing story for them can be a bonding experience that fosters a deeper connection between you and your child or grandchild;
- provides an opportunity to explore your child or grandchild’s own feelings and experiences, and to discover how Reiki can help them navigate and cope with the ups and downs of life.
5 steps on how to get started:
- Focus on the positive! Think of a healing message or the Reiki principles that you want to convey to the child, such as the importance of kindness, gratitude, or perseverance.
- Invite Reiki! Let the creative flow of Reiki come in and guide you toward the storyline and characters that will help you share the message in a fun and engaging way.
- Keep it simple! Start writing using simple and easy-to-understand healing language. Avoid using complex vocabulary, spiritual concepts, or Reiki symbols that the child may not understand yet.
- Engage! Include visual images and emotion to make the child connect with the story on a deeper level. Consider incorporating the child’s interests, hobbies, and experiences in your writing process.
- Choose the right moment! Read the Reiki story to the child at bedtime or any other peaceful moment throughout the day and encourage them to ask questions and share their thoughts and feelings. This will help them better understand the message of the story and give you insight into their perspective and interests. You can also integrate a little breathing exercise into the story.
- Reflect! End the story with a message of hope that will inspire and motivate them to apply what they’ve learned in their daily lives.
Remember! Encourage your child to create their own healing stories based on the lessons and values that you have taught them. It will develop their creativity and imagination, as well as their ability to express themselves and communicate their inner world.
A Reiki story example that you can use as inspiration or adjust it to your child’s needs and life experiences:
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Alma who loved to explore the world around her. She would often wander around her backyard, taking in the beauty of nature. One day, Alma stumbled upon a hidden garden at the back of her house. She wondered how come she has never seen this place before! It was here all along and somehow, she has never seen it…. Curious! It was a place where the sun shone brightly, and the birds sang sweetly, creating a symphony of sounds.
As she walked deeper into this secret garden, Alma noticed a majestic tree with wide branches stretching high into the sky. The tree was surrounded by a vibrant bed of flowers, and its roots ran deep into the earth. Alma felt drawn to the tree and decided to take a closer look. As she approached, Alma noticed something glinting in the dirt at the base of the tree.
Curious, she started to dig, brushing away the soil until she uncovered five smooth stones, each one engraved with a different message. Alma felt as if she had just discovered a treasure! The stones were warm to the touch, and each one seemed to glow with its own unique energy.
Alma picked up the first stone and read the words engraved on it: “Just for today, I will not be angry.” She closed her eyes and imagined a warm, peaceful feeling spreading through her body, banishing any trace of anger or frustration.
[You can ask your child: How does your body feel when you are at peace?]
The second stone read, “Just for today, I will not worry.” Alma took a deep breath and pictured herself surrounded by a cocoon of calm, feeling safe and secure.
[Have you ever worried about something and then realised that in fact there was nothing to worry about?]
The third stone read, “Just for today, I will be grateful.” Alma felt a rush of joy as she remembered all the things in her life that she was thankful for – her family, her friends, the beautiful garden around her.
[What are the things you feel grateful for?]
The fourth stone read, “Just for today, I will do my work honestly.” Alma imagined herself surrounded by a bright light, feeling proud of herself for being truthful and hardworking.
[How do you feel when you are appreciated for something nice you’ve done?]
Finally, she picked up the fifth stone, which read, “Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.” Alma felt a wave of compassion washing over her, as she thought about all the people and animals she could help and make happy.
[Can you name one kind thing you’ve done today?]
Alma was deeply excited about these treasure stones and decided to carry one with her each day and see what happens! She felt like they were magical!
The first day, she put the first stone in her pocket [Ask your child: Do you remember the words written on the first stone? If not, you name it and repeat it together. Do the same for each day/stone] and looked at it from time to time. When her little brother took her favorite toy, she noticed the upsetting feelings that were rising and felt guided to take a deep breath and count to ten. Then, asked her brother if she could have her toy back when he finishes playing with it. To her surprise, her brother agreed and even offered to share some of his toys with her. Alma felt happy and proud of herself for not getting angry.
On the second day, Alma took the second stone in her pocket and tried not to worry about her spelling test. She studied hard and reviewed her words, and then she went to school feeling confident and prepared. When she got her test back, she saw that she had gotten an A+! Alma was overjoyed and realized that worrying doesn’t help, but being prepared does.
On the third day, Alma carried the third stone with her and thought about all the good things in her life. She thought about her family, her friends, and all the fun things she gets to do, all the amazing places she got the chance to visit. She even wrote a thank-you note to her parents for being so loving, kind and patient with her and her little brother. Alma felt happy and thankful, and she noticed that other people seemed to be in a better mood too. Everything seemed to flow efortlessly in her life!
On the fourth day, Alma took the fourth stone and she noticed she postponed fewer of her tasks. She finished her homework on time, with motivation and contempt even, knowing that this will forge a better future for her. She even helped her little brother with his math problems. Alma felt proud of herself for being honest and hard-working, and her parents and teachers were very proud of her too.
On the fifth day, Alma took the last stone and decided to be kind to every living thing. She helped her mom feed the fish, picked up some trash in the park, and even rescued a butterfly that was stuck in a spider’s web. Alma felt happy and compassionate, and she realized that being kind to others makes her feel good too.
Thinking about her past days and everything that happened since she discovered that secret garden, Alma realised that her stone treasure was in fact a reminder of the true treasure that is life itself! Just like the secret garden that was always there, the joys of life are always here too! We just have to pay attention to them!
Alma felt that magic is real! And she has magical powers that help her feel better, be a better person, spread love and kindness in the world!
[Ask your child: What can YOU do today to spread love and kindness in the world too? Invite them to share any thoughts about the story: if they liked it, what they understood from it, if inspired them in any way, what they would have loved to happen differently]
Extra Advice
You can also consider creating a healing Reiki story for yourself! It can be a powerful way to change your inner narrative and overcome negative thoughts and emotions. To get started, take some time to reflect on the challenges and struggles that you are facing in your life. Identify the negative beliefs and thoughts that are holding you back, and consider how you can reframe them in a more positive and empowering way. For example, if you are struggling with low self-esteem, you could write a story about a hero [your inner child] who learns to love and accept themselves, despite their flaws and mistakes.
As you write your healing story, try to include as many sensory details and emotions as possible to help you fully immerse yourself in the story. Use descriptive language and vivid imagery to create a rich and engaging world that will help you visualize yourself as the hero of your own story.
Once you have written your healing story, read it to yourself regularly and allow yourself to fully experience the emotions and sensations that it evokes. This will help you shift your perspective and experience a more empowered life.
