One of the things I get asked about quite a bit is how safe Reiki is to use with kids. Can you use it on kids? Is it safe? Can you teach Reiki to kids? Is it safe for them to use it on their own? The answer is yes, yes, and YES! Reiki is such a great tool to bring into a child’s life. It promotes healing, love, compassion, and empowers them to solve issues in a loving way. I have a handout I like to give to people in Reiki 1 about Reiki and Children. It always surprises people that Reiki can be done by anyone and anywhere. Here are some of the most popular questions I receive answered for you here:
Is Reiki safe to use on kids?
Yes! Reiki is an all knowing energy. This means that it knows exactly what to do and how long to do it for. As a Reiki Practitioner you are just the vessel. Allow yourself to be a part of this amazing gift and let Reiki do the work. It will not harm a child in any way. Instead it offers a calming and alternative way to heal.
I have been attuned to Reiki level 1. How can I use it to help kids?
There are endless ways Reiki can be used to help kids. My personal favorite way to help kids is to use it to promote grounding. However, it can be used to ward off bad dreams, get rid of “the monster in the closet”, help sooth them while sick, help them drift off to sleep, help them deal with problems in a calm peaceful manner, help them protect themselves, help any self-esteem issue, help them learn how to relax and how to meditate, help them gain awareness of the energy fields of their body, offer them a different way of seeing the world and so much more! If you work with children on a daily basis one thing you can do is Reiki a situation. For example, when I worked as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant there were sometimes issues that would come up that were hard to deal with. I would mentally make a master symbol in my mind over any issue that I was having trouble with. It would always help and a peaceful outcome would always magically appear on its own.

Is it safe to teach Reiki to kids?
Yes! I believe that it can be helpful to any child. I recommend first teaching them how to use it on themselves and then after they have mastered it teach them how to use it on others. Children often take to Reiki even easier than adults. They are usually more open and do not hold as many fears. It can be quite empowering for kids to have a tool like Reiki that they can use to help themselves and others with. If they have pets at home they can also use Animal Reiki just as adults do. With Reiki the practitioner is just the vessel so things such as age and appearance do not hinder how well it works. You must be sure to stress however that it is a healing tool and is only used for the greatest good of all.
I want to teach my child Reiki but I’m scared. Will my child be made fun of for using Reiki?
Possibly. Peers can make fun of you for anything. If you are worried about your child being made fun of then simply Reiki the situation. It may be a great lesson for your child to see something you are scared of and to see how Reiki can be used to create a positive outcome with it. Never let fear hold you back.
What are some things I can do to get my child interested in Reiki?
Children are naturally curious. Chances are if you are open and they see you using Reiki in your everyday life they will be open about it and want to learn about it too. Show them how you Reiki water, food, plants, and any situation you are having trouble with. Let them watch a Reiki session. Show them how to perform Animal Reiki. Teach them how it can be used for anything they want to help. Show them how amazing it is.
