Like many of you the drawing of the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol is not without problems.
After struggling for a while I remembered how I dealt in my youth with stuff I couldn’t remember.
I made up a story.
So I sat before the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol, drawing it and while doing it, I started telling a story. My mouth just opened and the words emerged.
Since then I taught my story to others in order to help them. Some got inspired to do their own story and as a result they feel much closer to the symbol than before.
Mission accomplished!

Maybe one day people will learn that they do not need the symbols and will treat them as the training Wheels that they are.
Hopefully each individual teacher can embrace this as well, and know when to help take the training wheels off…it’s like we need to teach students how to use them to help them also understand that they aren’t necessary…
Totally with you on that ! I was tough to always use the symbols, I read a brilliant book called Liberate your reiki, by Taggart King, that spells the truth about reiki, so many silly things I’ve been told like, you can’t do reiki on someone with a pacemaker for a start and many more things
🙂
I have experienced that. I don’t need to use the symbols any more. I just chant. And it works.
Thank you for this story. I like it better than the one I learned a long time ago.

My symbol of 12,13,14 15 are a bit different ….do I stay with what I was taught ?
Moya, I always tell people that they should choose the symbol they are comfortable with. In my opinion Beginners may stay with the way the symbol is shown in their handbook. Remember you only need the symbol until you reach a certain point in your development.
I generally just say the symbol, think the symbol and call in the angels and spirit guides. Never fails !!
That’s what my master thought me as well, so far I imagine golden cho-ku-rei’s in my palms at the opening sequence and it seems to be working. still drawing the other symbols though, I feel I need to go a bit further before I can stop drawing the rest
Very good
Initially Yesssss .. you start with symbols but then the stage must come when you just surrender to the will of divine & become one with the ONE
That is really helpful, I am sure I have made some mistakes using it in the past but the intent seems to get the ki to its destination! Thank you !
There is a Japanese story to go with this symbol. It’s comprised of 5 separate kanji. Each kanji has a meaning which you could learnt in order to try to understand what Usui Mikao was teaching. This symbol can also be found in ancient ninja texts that was used as a spell when engaging with others. But as most others have said here, once you have learned you realise there is nothing to learn and so the symbols get dropped.
