There is much unrest and emotional pain in the world. Hearts are hurting, angry, and bitter. Many times hearts have become hardened to the pain they have witnessed, suffered or inflicted so that they can protect themselves against further damage. But this only allows them to continue inflicting pain on others and to avoid truly seeing their own wounds. Hard hearts are temporary bandages. They are not healing.
We all see people every day that have hearts that are in this kind of pain, to one degree or another. A relative or a neighbor who believes the world “isn’t fair”, is always complaining and never satisfied. A bully in your school who seems to want people to cower or cry. People in the news who are oppressing or being oppressed, both sides angry and in their own kind of pain. Politicians or religious leaders quick to begin wars and those suffering and becoming angry because of the violence. Or maybe you live in a violent neighborhood where angry words are the norm and it’s not uncommon to see a fight happening or even guns going off outside your window. It is difficult to see it all and soothe our own pain.
“Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath.”
—Eckhart Tolle
As healers, we can all do something to help ease the pain in the hearts of the individuals causing violence, those who are on the receiving end of it and those who witness it. All those in this cycle are experiencing pain. Their pain really is not very different from one another, though it may be expressed in different ways. It is all some version of fear, grief, and separation. If we remove ourselves from being caught up in which side is the best side to be on and remember that all sides are in pain, we can stay in the position of healer and send Reiki to the hearts of all involved, including ourselves. When we allow violence to make us violent as well, even if it is only in our thoughts, we are becoming the disease we wish to heal, so we must heal ourselves.
When we see a violent response on the news, we can send Reiki to it immediately, as well as adding the situation to our Reiki lists or Reiki boxes. No matter if it is a newscaster or politician making hostile remarks or a news story about a shooting or a bombing, you can hold up your hands and send Reiki and ask the angels to surround the situation, lifting the hearts of the people involved closer to their truest and highest selves, closer to the Divine in their own heart.
We can also offer Reiki from our hearts when we see someone being harsh or judgmental on the internet or in our neighborhoods. Send a short offering of Reiki from your heart to them. When you do this, it is important that you examine your own heart. It can be easy to become reactive when seeing someone be angry and violent. The goal when sending Reiki is not to get someone to come to your side. That is a misuse of the energy. The goal is to bring balance to their hearts and to the greater situation. If there is unrest in your own heart, please attend to that first by offering yourself Reiki for a moment before sending Reiki to another.
If you live in a neighborhood where hearts have been hardened through anger and violence, the best help you can offer is to hold the light in yourself and continue to be a true beacon of healing. Emotional pain spreads like a virus and if you are keeping yourself well through self-healing, you will be best able to offer hope and healing to others. It also makes a great difference to send Reiki to your own home and to your neighborhood each day, with the intention that all beings within the neighborhood who are open to receive will receive the blessing of healing. Offer a blessing to each person you see. I have seen this practice make a difference in my own neighborhood as it has become a more pleasant and quieter place to live and the violent crime rate has fallen. I have seen fights begin outside and then calm down and dissipate as I offered Reiki from inside my apartment.
We can send healing to every heart in the world by healing ourselves and offer that light to all who are willing to receive it. Don’t hesitate to let your light shine brightly. The world needs you.
