Reiki is more than just a healing practice; it is a path of personal transformation that invites us to connect deeply with our inner energy. At its core, Reiki teaches us to align with universal life force energy, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
The Reiki Precepts “Just for today” offer us a framework for living with intention and mindfulness. They encourage us to release anger and worry, cultivate gratitude, act with honesty, and practice kindness. These simple, yet powerful principles serve as reminders to dedicate ourselves not only to the practice of Reiki but also to the journey of self-discovery.
Here’s a look at how to view the precepts as transformative and how we can personally apply them to our daily lives.
Just for today, I will not be angry
Transformative Aspect:
Anger is a powerful emotion that can block energy flow, creating imbalance within the body and mind. This precept invites you to pause before reacting, creating an opportunity to center yourself and realign with your higher self.
How to Apply:
Before or during your Reiki practice, reflect on this precept. As you place your hands on yourself in the Gassho position, take a moment to release any frustration or resentment you may be holding. Affirm to yourself: “Just for today, I choose peace.” This helps clear your energy field and opens the flow for healing.
Just for today, I will not worry
Transformative Aspect:
Worry creates mental clutter and can deplete your energy reserves. This precept teaches us to stay grounded in the present moment and trust that we are supported by universal energy.
How to Apply:
During a Reiki session or meditation, focus on releasing any anxieties. You can repeat the affirmation, “Just for today, I choose to let go of worry and trust in the process.” Allow yourself to be fully present, focusing on the energy and flow without fear of the future or concerns about the outcome.

Just for today, I will be grateful
Transformative Aspect:
Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools for attracting positive energy. This precept encourages us to recognize the blessings in our lives, however small, and to shift our mindset toward abundance.
How to Apply:
Before starting any Reiki session or meditation, take a moment to acknowledge something you are grateful for. You can even place your hands on your heart and silently express gratitude for your healing journey. This brings you into a state of openness and receptivity to healing energy.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Transformative Aspect:
Honesty fosters integrity and alignment with your true self. This precept encourages you to be authentic in your healing, staying true to your practice and intentions.
How to Apply:
As you perform Reiki on yourself or others, stay grounded in the truth of your intentions. Be mindful of your thoughts and actions, ensuring that your energy is clear and aligned. If you encounter any doubts during your healing practice, remind yourself of this precept and trust in your ability to channel pure, honest energy.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
Transformative Aspect:
Kindness is the cornerstone of healing. This precept asks us to extend compassion not only to others but also to ourselves. By practicing kindness, we shift our energy toward love and acceptance, both internally and externally.
How to Apply:
As you work with Reiki, cultivate kindness in your thoughts and actions. During your Gassho practice, reflect on how you can show kindness to yourself and others. This could be as simple as offering yourself words of encouragement or compassion or sending Reiki energy to someone in need.
Incorporating these principles into our daily practice allows Reiki to slowly, but surely, transform us. The more we practice, the more we align with our true nature and the healing energy that resides within. Reiki becomes not just a tool for healing others, but a journey of self-love, self-awareness, and a deepening understanding of the life we are creating.
