When we begin our Reiki self-healing practice, we learn about the energy system that runs along the spine – the chakras. This is an exciting time and we enthusiastically embrace chakra healing. While in the learning stages, we take special care with our practice. Perhaps we have a scheduled time for healing planned for each day. We find a quiet place where we can be certain not to be disturbed. We add small touches to enhance our experience such as lighting a candle or burning incense, or sage. If we have access to them, we use the Reiki symbols to call in the energy along with our strong intent and focus. We take care to mindfully address each chakra in our daily meditation. The result of this work is that we feel great! We are inspired and empowered.
Over time we may unintentionally relax this practice. Between family, friends, work, personal interests, and other commitments, we have busy full lives. Finding balance in our day can be challenging. We may neglect our self-practice (even skip it!) when life’s demands get in the way. Our self-healing can be pushed aside by a hectic schedule, dwindling to an afterthought as we lie in bed after a long day. Awareness is key here. When we find our practice is getting pushed out of our schedule, we need to take action to ensure to give ourselves the healing time we need. Just when our lives are busy and stressful, this is when we need self-healing and attention to our chakras the most!
There are other factors that contribute. You may notice there are trends in healing practices. What’s hot today on social media? What’s being discussed and touted as the latest and greatest healing tool? There is always something new and exciting to distract our focus. While it’s fun and interesting to keep up with what’s trending, we cannot allow ourselves to follow marketing shifts to the detriment of our primary healing. Chakra healing may or may not be today’s hot topic, but it should be a cornerstone of our daily energy work. Keeping energy flowing to the chakras is vital to our health, our relationships, our serenity and happiness.
More on the Chakras:
Chakras are the energy centers along the spine. They start at the base of the spine and continue to beyond the top of the head. They control bodily functions from immunity from disease to processing complex emotions. Regular attention to the chakras promotes balance. Chakra healing addresses every issue we face in our daily lives; from our connection to earth, to speaking our truth, to connection to others and to Spirit, and more. Attention to the chakras can be as simple as mindfully sending Reiki to each chakra in your daily practice, or it can be elevated to scheduling a session with a Reiki professional with the knowledge to specifically review each area, checking the strength of the energy flow to locate any weakness.
Chakra healing begins with the Root chakra – this chakra is associated with the color red and the element of earth. Physically, it is located at the base of the spine. When in a sitting position, the Root chakra connects directly to earth with the sits bones. The Root chakra is where we “ground” and connect to earth’s powerful energy. When your connection to the Root chakra is good, you will feel safe, calm and secure. If you feel anxious, fearful or flighty, reconnect to your root.
Your Sacral chakra controls creativity, fertility and sexuality. It is located below the naval and its color is orange. When your Sacral chakra is out of balance, you may feel listless, bored, uninspired. You may suffer low libido or fear intimacy. A healthy Sacral chakra can increase creativity and passion. It can bring feelings of openness and optimism.
The Solar Plexus chakra is sometimes known as the power chakra. When this chakra is activated and optimal, self-confidence and capability will be high. If neglected, self-esteem will suffer and you may feel insecure or inferior, or run the risk of getting stuck in a situation that is not in your best interest. The Solar Plexus is located at the top of the abdomen and is associated with the color yellow.
The Heart chakra resonates with the color green or pink and processes love, compassion, empathy. It can be the bridge between the mind, body, and spirit. When blocked, irritability, impatience and lack of trust can manifest, making it difficult to relate to others. You may become bitter or intolerant. A fully functioning Heart chakra radiates love and light for connection to self and others.
The Throat chakra is blue and controls your voice and how you speak your truth – a disruption in the Throat chakra will raise havoc with communication. You may feel frustrated and misunderstood. You may hold in secrets that cause problems with self-expression. When optimal, the Throat chakra is a powerful ally for communication. If you are having trouble speaking your truth, send Reiki to this chakra. It can also be helpful to wear or carry a small blue crystal, like a blue lace agate.
The Third Eye chakra is indigo and associated with intuition and knowing; trusting your gut feelings and your ability to see the big picture. It is physically located just above the brow line on the forehead. If your Third Eye chakra is blocked you may feel out of sorts, have trouble sleeping and lack a vital source of information for planning and making life choices. When the Third Eye chakra is balanced, imagination and intuition will be at their highest level.
The Crown chakra is a receptor for universal energy and your connection to Spirit. When all is well with the Crown chakra you will feel inspired and have a sense of joy and wellbeing. You will feel “plugged in”, supported and in tune with nature and higher guidance. Blockages to the Crown chakra will result in listlessness, depression or lack of motivation. The Crown chakra glows a brilliant white or can be purplish.
Reiki energy will balance and align the chakras back to health. A pendulum can help test the strength and direction of the energy flow, pointing out which chakras need attention. Crystals and essential oils can be a wonderful enhancement for chakra work, as can sound therapy with a tuning fork or singing bowls.
Our practice evolves over time as we learn and grow. We put different emphasis on selected modalities depending on our awareness and our needs. Chakra healing is one practice we will want to revisit again and again as the basis for good health and strong energy flow.
