Energy healing modalities have been found to be extremely beneficial when addressing the mental-emotional distress and conditions arising due to them. Reiki, in particular, is a wonderful modality as a support system for patients dealing with such crises. As Reiki is an unconditional love flowing through our energy body that soothes the recipient’s mind, body, and spirit, it can be used to manage and treat such conditions.
One of the prevalent issues nowadays is a class of mental-emotional disorders known as obsessive-compulsive disorders or OCD. It can be of many types; however, the phobia towards dirt and germs that lead to excessive cleaning, washing of hands, sanitization, etc., leads the list. This has increased during the current times as the covid pandemic has severely affected the mental health of millions of people on earth. The fear, the distress, the helplessness, the anxiety, and the grief that the whole world has faced in these times have definitely made a serious impact resulting in an increase of OCD cases overall.
As the name suggests, a person suffering from OCD is obsessive about a particular behavior and tends to repeatedly do it because they are compelled by the mind to do it. It’s a cyclic process repeating itself constantly. Even if the person does not want to indulge in this activity, they do it as the mind never ceases to urge them to do it. For example, a phobia towards diseases, germs, dirt would make a person clean themself or their surroundings again and again even if there is no such imminent danger of infection. The fear becomes a massive force that overpowers all the logic placed in front of the mind. In extreme cases, people shut themselves in a room and avoid touching even their family members. They do not come out even for meals, don’t let anyone touch their clothes, bedcovers, etc. Though they know in their heart that this extent of fear is unnecessary. Yet, they cannot put a fight against the mind obsessed with this paranoia. In the end, they surrender, doing what the mind orders to have some peace in the end. The family members feel the person’s pain but mostly find themselves helpless. This is primarily because the person is fighting an endless battle in their own mind.
In such cases, Reiki can help the patient alongside regular medications to ease the distress and relieve the anxiety and fear of the patient. Of course, I am no medical expert and do not aim to give suggestions or advice for the treatment. Still, I wish to share my experiences with these patients and found that Reiki was very useful for managing a severe form of OCD.
This article is divided into two parts. In the first part, I will focus on the major chakra affected by OCD, the third eye chakra. The brow chakra or the third eye is severely blocked in such cases. If one can visualize the block, it appears like a thick brick right in the center of the forehead. The other chakras may be normal or slightly less affected. When channeling Reiki, particularly at the third eye, it might present itself as a very stubborn block that does not budge with the initial few sessions. It will take a few sessions to penetrate the layers of this block, and then some amount of energy starts flowing into it. You may get impatient as nothing seems to happen during the initial days, but this needs gentle healing, and you should let the energy take its own time. Slowly the brick-like structure starts dissolving, and you can feel the energy flow through restricted but significant.
Healing crisis may also present itself, so we need to address that as well. After a few days, maybe a week or two, when we sense the energy flow to the third eye chakra strengthening, the recipient also shows symptoms of healing. These may include reduced frequency of washing hands repeatedly, taking less time in the shower, coming out and talking to family members more often, joining them at mealtimes, being less irritable, allowing people to touch their belongings, etc. This is an indication that the healing process is working and gradual positive changes are taking place.
Thus, the third eye is the main chakra we should focus on and send healing to for a comparatively longer duration, along with other chakras to heal patients suffering from OCD. However, full-body healing is most recommended in these cases.
In the next part, I will discuss other points where Reiki can be used to help OCD patients. Apart from this, I will also inform you about the changes we may witness during the healing process.
Reiki blessings for all. Namaste.
