Death is a topic that is not easy to talk about. Most people associate death as the end of the earthly journey. That said, I believe that death is simply the end of one great journey that we experience on earth.
When I first started performing Reiki sessions on my elderly relative who was diagnosed with dementia, I had asked her Higher Self for permission as she was unable to communicate vocally. I did my usual preparations by grounding and meditating before our scheduled session and listened to my intuition and performed each healing session to the best of my ability.
The sessions were well-received and I continued sending Reiki distantly when I was unable to see her in-person. I felt like I was more connected to my relative and felt her love for me through Reiki. It was beautiful.
It is also normal to feel a sort of kinship or grief with the person, however it is best to let nature take its course and provide Reiki for the highest good.
Here are some steps you can take to aid an individual in at the end of their journey.
Step 1: The chakras
All the chakras are connected. For me, I like to focus on the Heart chakra as it is the bridge between the upper and lower chakras. The Heart chakra is one of the most open chakras that will enable a better and deeper understanding of the client. Furthermore, the heart is also the source of the life energy in the body.
You may or may not feel more energy flow from your hands into the chakra. However, focusing on the Heart chakras will enable the person to feel a sense of balance and peace.
Step 2: The scanning method
Scan or place your hands above an area that you feel needs more focus. Follow your intuition as it will guide you to do the best that you can. Reiki is an energy that will go to where it’s best.
Practice a partial or full session for your client and provide feedback to them or their relative at the end of the session. Feedback is important as it provides a certain comfort to the person’s loved ones.
Step 3: Using the Reiki Symbols
If you have been attuned to Reiki Level 2 or the Master Level, you can use the Reiki Symbols.
Personally, I used the Power Symbol to concentrate most of the physical symptoms and the Mental/Emotional symbol to aid my relative feel at peace. The Distant Symbol can also be used if you are unable to place your hands on the person and it further enhances the healing session. Lastly, the Master symbol can be used to bring a complete balance to the body as a whole.
Overall, Reiki with someone at the end is a different experience than performing a regular Reiki session as I could feel serene peace radiating from my relative throughout the process as she passed. It was possibly the most serene experience I’ve had in any client.
I feel truly blessed to have had been given this opportunity as a healer and relative. Despite me being really emotional during those final moments as she breathed her last, I felt that it was a huge honor to have provided her with Reiki during her final moments on earth.
Now, I look back upon these moments with pride and joy, and am thankful to have been blessed with Reiki and its wholistic healing practice.
If you have been given this unique opportunity to work with the dying, do so with patience and compassion. I believe it will change the way you see Reiki as a whole, just as it did for me.
