Honoring the Reiki Principles

Articles

16 Aug 2020

As Reiki Practitioners, one of the first things we are taught at Reiki Level One are the Reiki Principles. These five Reiki principles were created by our Founder, Dr Mikao Usui to better understand ourselves and to help us live in a more peaceful manner.

I’d like to share some advice on how you can live in a more Reiki-centered way by honoring these Principles.

Just for today…

1) Do not anger –

As humans, it is natural to have anger in us. Anger is known as a highly destructive emotion that lowers your vibration. However, anger can be controlled. Instead of giving in to our anger, we can take a step back. This gives us a better understanding of the actions and words of persons that may have upset us in the first place.

By choosing not to be angry, we are also working on our self-control and living in a more Zen/Spiritual manner. This gives us a better understand the actions and words of persons that may have upset us.

2) Do not worry –

Worrying is a waste of time and won’t solve anything, it will only add to more stress and make you feel anxious. Instead of worrying, we should focus on doing things that will bring peace to our lives.

An example could be meditating or doing a task that you enjoy. Instead of worrying about the future or something that troubles you, focus on the positives.

We can change our mindset on things that might cause us worry. Use the Mental/Emotional symbol if you have been attuned to Reiki Level 2 onwards. It helps ease your mind and creates a calming energy that will keep you focused on things that matter.

3) Be grateful –

Being grateful is an important value that I strive to live by. Every morning, I think of five things that I am grateful for. It could be anything – from your pets to your family or your job.

I suggest keeping a journal of things you are grateful for and write them down. You can also choose to use the Power symbol to seal your intention/gratitude and read your list out at the end of each week or month.

4) Work with diligence/honesty –

Being honest is a value as good as gold. Being truthful can resolve many disputes and enable us to build better relationships with ourselves and the people around us.

Personally, I like to add diligence to this principle as I feel that it is as important as honesty. By working hard, you are also creating and setting a good example for others.

5) Be kind to others –

This is by far my favorite Reiki Principle. You never know what a kind gesture might do. Someone could be having a bad day and your compliment or having a kind, and nice attitude could brighten their day.

Being kind doesn’t take much effort. Sometimes, you just need to listen to your Higher-self and let your actions do the talking. A kind gesture could be lending a hand to someone in need, or sending flowers for your colleague or family member.

Do something that fills you with joy. Don’t forget to listen to your intuition and try your best to live in a way that will make Dr Usui proud.
