Article by Reiki Master Judy Camblor
I was once asked, “If I could go back and change one thing about my youth, what would it be?”
I sat and thought about this for a while. I realized the one thing I would change would be to be more discerning about who I shared my energy with.
Through life people come into and go out of our lives. Some stay, while others exit quickly. We meet each person to learn a lesson from them. Some continue teaching while they remain in our lives, and some appear when we need a reminder of lessons we have already learned.
In all my relationships, whether it was a friendship, a co-worker, a boss, or in romantic relationships, I’ve always given of myself. I consciously gave of myself without considering whether I was giving away too much, without putting any limits on what was okay to give, and without considering whether what I was willing to give would be detrimental to me. In other words, even though I selflessly gave, I rarely received in the same amounts in which I contributed to that relationship.
Since becoming a Reiki practitioner it was made clear to me that where I was giving away the most power was through my sexual energy. Sexual energy comes from our two lower chakras, the Root chakra, and the Sacral chakra. It is the primordial life force energy that urges us to go out into the world and create. Through our sexual energy we create experiences that our souls have come to this plane to know. We all experience and express this energy in different ways. So, if we are meant to express and create through our sexual energy, why did I feel like I was giving away my personal power?
I won’t try to paint myself as a saint. Some of those “romantic” relationships were not romantic at all, but purely casual sexual encounters. These casual encounters were the ones where I found I gave away the most personal power in the most un-reciprocated ways. Looking back, these relationships taught me some very valuable lessons about how important it is to be very careful who you share your sexual energy with.
Now that I have been practicing energy healing for almost ten years, I have come to learn that our sexual energy is the part of us that we should consider most sacred when considering getting involved in a romantic relationship whether it is casual (nothing wrong with that) or long-term. In my own experience and from what I have learned from my clients, sharing our sexual energy is like opening a portal to our soul. This energy that transfers from one body to another can have different effects on our own health and wellness.
For example, when we work on ourselves on a spiritual level by meditating, practicing yoga, receiving Reiki or practicing other types of energy healing work, we are raising our body’s energetic vibration. So, if you are taking such good care of yourself energetically, why would you share a sexual encounter with someone whose vibration does not match yours? What many people do not realize is that during a sexual encounter with another person there is an exchange of energy that takes place. It does not matter whether you are into clearing your energy or not, the energy transfer takes place.
Let’s say you’re enjoying your high vibration from all that fantastic work you are doing, but you hook up or become involved with a person who has a lower vibration (even though it may seem like their vibe matches yours); you share an intimate moment with them and when the channels open and the energy is shared, they are now enjoying your clear and high vibration energy while you are picking up their low vibration energy through this sexual encounter. Think of this transfer of energy between two bodies like the flow of a river. As the water flows from a clear source downstream, it collects rocks, sand, plants, and other debris and pushes it downstream until it is dumped into the next large body of water. In this same way, your energy is coursing through their channels bringing fresh new energy, while their stagnant unclean energy gets dumped into your larger reservoir of energy. This is why sometimes you will feel drained after a sexual encounter with someone whose vibration does not match yours (and I am not referring to a vigorous sexual experience). This feeling of being drained is not physical but mental, emotional and spiritual. If this happens, check in with yourself. Try to analyze your energy over the few days that follow that experience to see where your energy is. If you are not feeling like your high vibrational self, it’s time to start the cleansing process over again and consider how you may either avoid this experience again or encourage the other person to join you in energy healing.
Typically, people with low vibration energy tend to be very negative, abuse alcohol, drugs (the legal and illegal kinds) and even suffer from sexual addiction. Think about an addict: How much unclean energy have they been exposed to that stays within their energy field and causes them harm? And, think about how they have contributed to lowering their own vibration with their addiction. Low vibration people can also be sociopaths or narcissists which can fool us into believing that they are high vibration people. If you’ve been doing energy work for some time, it should be very easy for you to spot these kinds of people. Not only that, your Solar Plexus chakra (our gut instinct or second brain) will give you that uneasy feeling around them.
You may want to consider staying away from the dating circuit for a time if you have been exposed to this type of lower vibration energy. Think of it as making a conscious decision by deciding that healing yourself is a priority. Cleanse yourself of the energetic cords created between you and others. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you should become celibate, but make working on yourself a priority. This also applies to any other type of relationship, not just the sexual ones. Toxicity can affect any type of relationship: family members, co-workers, and friends.
Taking care of myself and recovering from involvement with people who had very low vibrations was what I needed to do in order to be able to start fresh in any future relationships. This realization taught me valuable lessons about giving away my power, as well as learning how to be more discerning before sharing my energy again. I am aware now of the importance of establishing connections and relationships where I experience an exchange of energy, rather than ones where I am giving away my power. As time passed, I observed how my energy work allowed energetic cords to dissolve as I called my power back to me. I gave myself Reiki and also called on Archangel Michael in meditation to cut and release energetic cords.
This giving away of our personal power applies to both women and men. So many of us are just looking for someone to fill the voids, to fix the broken pieces, and become our happiness before we realize that we are the ones we have been waiting for. The real work begins when you realize your worth and your power go hand in hand. Once you have experienced the power of energy work, you will think twice about getting involved with someone who could derail your spiritual and healing progress.
Wishing you a day full of love and light!

Loved the article! It resonated so much with me, not in sexual relationships but in very own personal, family relationships. Where even responding to negative arguments or family members in the same manner as they do, takes away your own power from you. I have realised over years that your silence and deliberate distance creation from those who take away your power, helps in restoring it greatly. Thanks for sharing this, Judy!
