Meet Your Spirit Guide

The first time I ever heard about Spirit Guides was during my first Reiki attunement class. At first, I thought only Reiki practitioners had Spirit Guides for protection and support. I took part in a guided meditation to meet my main Spirit Guide and then was told that I could now work with them. Well, I had no idea how to do that and most importantly, why. So I simply forgot about them for quite a while.

When I began teaching Reiki and led my students down the path of meeting their own Spirit Guide, I started to wonder about their purpose in our lives and who they really were. So one day I sat down and just said “Hi! Got a message for me?”, and that was the beginning of a wonderful relationship between me and my Spirit Guide team.

Spirit Guides are higher dimensional beings whose sole purpose is to serve us in our human experience. They do so by answering our calls for help, guiding us in our daily lives, sending us messages and encouraging us to move forward with our hopes and dreams and helping us to bring them into reality. If we let them.

We all have our own path and each path is different. Our Guides know and respect that. Whether we choose to follow their guidance or not, they love and support us unconditionally. Our Spirit Guides are our cheerleaders, our mentors, our best friends, our guides and protectors. They can support us in achieving amazing things. If we let them.

You probably noticed that I keep repeating “if we let them”. That’s because our Spirit Guides won’t just go ahead and even the path for us. They can’t. They are not allowed to. Why is that? We live under the universal law of free will. This means that whatever we do is our choice and no one can take that choice away from us. Of course, oftentimes our choices affect other people around us either in a positive or negative way, but then it is their choice whether they allow our choices to affect them or not. So you see, our lives are a string of choices. They unfold in front of us by the choices we make. Our Spirit Guides are not allowed to interfere in our choices unless we ask for their guidance.

Many times it happens that we ask for their guidance without knowing it. Think about a time when you felt stuck or did not know which way you should turn. Perhaps you were in a tricky situation or had a tough decision to make. Maybe you thought something like “What should I do?”, and shortly thereafter the answer just popped into your head. Am I right? That knowledge came from your Spirit Guides.

When you first start communicating with your Spirit Guides it may take a while until you receive answers. This is perfectly normal. There are many ways our Spirit Guides can communicate with us, but you and they have to figure out which way you most resonate with. A very common way of communication is through number sequences. But Spirit Guides can also bring important messages across through songs, thoughts that just seem to pop into your head, specific cloud shapes you may feel drawn to, vivid dreams and many other forms of communication.

Once you start to tune in to one way of communication, your Guides will use this method primarily to bring messages to you. However, the more you resonate with their guidance, the more open you will become spiritually and this, in turn, will open new ways for your Guides to talk to you.

One amazing aspect of working with your Spirit Guides is that they can remove your emotional and spiritual blockages for you. To do this, you have to give your Guides permission to act on your behalf. I highly recommend giving them the permission when you go to sleep. While you sleep your conscious mind is resting and your unconscious mind is on high alert. The conscious mind is driven by your ego. The ego can be your biggest enemy when it comes to change. So by giving your Guides permission while your conscious mind is resting gives them the opportunity to remove your blockages without being interrupted by an ‘except for this’, or an ‘except for that’, from your mind. Often times those things we try to hold on to the most are the ones we need to let go of first.

Following is a little bedtime routine I perform on a regular basis and I highly recommend it. When you lay in bed, say or think the following words: ‘I am calling my Guides and I am calling my Angels. Thank you for coming! Please give me what I need right now, without restriction. Please remove what no longer serves me, without restriction. Thank you!’

The part ‘without restriction’ is very important, as it gives your Guides free reign to do what is in your best interest, even though your ego may disagree. Remember that your guides always work for your highest good.

After reciting these paragraphs, you can add any request you would like. It is important though, that you ask in the correct way. Be as specific yet as vague as you can be. Let’s say you are looking for love. If you ask for a specific person and this person is not the perfect match for you, your guides won’t bring them into your life. So asking for a specific person may not be in your best interest. If you instead asked, however, to bring the right person into your life, your Guides will set you on the path to bring you together with your perfect match.

My Spirit Guides primarily communicate with me through numbers. The first number I repeatedly saw was 734. I must have seen that number for at least a couple of years before I began to wonder whether it meant something. Once I began to think about the meaning of this number, I was guided to a book. It is called Angel Numbers 101 by Doreen Virtue. In this book lied the answer to this number sequence. Basically, it was my Guides’ and Angels’ way of saying, we are here and we’ve got you! There was one particular incident surrounding this number that I would like to share with you.

One day a few years back, I was bombarded by negative energy and felt drained and just exhausted all day. My head was down, my mood gloomy and I was just unhappy. That day, I had to run some errands and as I was walking back to my car in the parking lot something truly mind-blowing happened. All of a sudden, my head spun to the right. And my view was locked on a license plate, which showed the numbers 734. At that moment, my Guides pretty much said: Snap out of it! I did and still do have number encounters and they all are amazing and always to the point, but that one was truly unique.

If you would like to begin communicating with your Spirit Guides I highly recommend the above-mentioned book. You can use it in a very unique way. If you have a question, take this book, ask the question and then open the book at a random page. Read the message of the number that caught your eye. Still, to this day, I use this method regularly and I am always amazed at how accurate and fitting the answer is.
