The Reiki practitioners may work with crystals to help bring the chakra system of the body into balance by absorbing the energy of each chakra and transmuting it to bring the chakras back to their natural vibratory state.
In my last article, I covered Reiki, Crystals and the Lower Chakra System. In this article, I am concentrating simply on the Heart Chakra or Anahata as it is called in Sanskrit. I believe it is important to set this chakra apart from the lower and higher chakras because it is the chakra that connects earth and heaven, the lower to the higher chakras, the physical and spiritual bodies. Anahata chakra is the bridge between the material world and the spiritual world.
Remember that Chakras are the energy centers of the energy body and the name chakra is the Sanskrit word for ‘wheel.’ Each chakra regulates different organs in the endocrine system. The heart chakra or Anahata governs the heart, lungs, and the breath. When the heart chakra is balanced we are a pleasure to be around. We can be positive, open-hearted, non-judgmental and compassionate. However, when we are experiencing negative feelings about our self-esteem or unworthiness, we can bet that our heart chakra is weak or unbalanced. Sometimes our heart chakra can be over-developed where we are too open-hearted making us a target for people who need to suck us into their emotional drama. Likewise, with an unbalanced heart chakra, we may be the ones who are overly dramatic and needy to the point where we suck people into our emotional drama.
As Chi/Qi rises from the root chakra through the sacral and solar plexus chakras to the heart chakra it goes through the sensations of each chakra which contributes to the health of the heart chakra:
“When we feel stable (root), we are able to create (sacral), when we can create, we feel confident (solar plexus), when we are confident, love and harmony flow easily in our lives (heart)…”
(Reiki: It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!)
Therefore, you can understand how our heart chakra can become unbalanced if we are not feeling stable, creative (productive) or confident. We all go through periods where we can feel down about ourselves. The ebb and flow of life force energy is a natural part of life. However, if you are a Reiki practitioner and you recognize the negative feelings coming on, checking in with the lower chakras and your heart chakra and performing healing will help you to quickly bring your energy body back into balance.
There are many different crystals that can be used to attain the desired vibrational balance in the heart chakra depending on one’s emotional state or past emotional traumas.
So, let’s say our heart chakra is balanced and radiant. We are feeling happy and positive, compassionate and caring. So why would we need to use a crystal to balance something that is already balanced?
When I encounter a client with a balanced heart chakra, I will always use a rose quartz crystal on this energy center. Rose quartz is a lovely crystal for bringing calmness and clarity to the emotions and restoring harmony to the mind. It can also be used for spiritual attunement to the energy of love.
I will also use Rhodochrosite on the heart chakra. This crystal is able to energize and purify the root chakra, the sacral chakra, and the heart chakra restoring them to balance. This stone helps to stimulate the energies of the body, and it can encourage the energy centers of the body to maintain an optimum state of health.
But when the heart chakra is out of balance here are three crystals I like to use during my Reiki sessions:
- Aventurine – is considered a quartz and its most common color is green. It is used in the heart chakra to both activate and clear the energy. It is also a great stone for protection from others who want to take advantage of your compassionate and caring energy. I use this crystal more than any other in the heart chakra for most of my clients because many times I encounter blockages in the heart chakra that need to be released. Aventurine not only allows a release of blocked energy but also helps in healing any emotional scars left behind by the blocked energy.
- Peridot – this beautiful olivine or dark yellow crystal emits a warm and friendly energy. This stone helps to bring understanding to circumstances or changes that occur in our lives which cause emotional pain and allows us to grow through this understanding and acknowledgment. While I don’t typically use this stone in my healing sessions, I do recommend it to my clients once the healing session has been completed because Peridot provides a shield of protection around the body and prevents outside influences from affecting the person whose energy centers have already been cleansed, balanced and aligned. Once they have experienced their healing session and the Aventurine used on them has helped to clear out painful emotional energy, wearing or carrying Peridot after a session allows for the understanding and acknowledgment to promote further healing.
- Malachite – is the stone of transformation. As discussed in my previous article, Malachite assists in looking deep within ourselves, it allows us to recognize where transformation needs to take place in our lives. If a person is experiencing a change in their life when they come in for a Reiki session, this stone will help them by stimulating the heart and throat chakras. Changes that cause emotional disturbances in our lives can affect both our ability to process the emotions and also our ability to communicate how we feel about the changes that are occurring.
Remember how I said that the heart chakra connects the lower chakras to the higher chakras? When the lower chakras and the heart chakra are balanced it becomes much easier for us to communicate our emotions in a clear way rather than allowing the emotions to run amuck and making us seem dramatic and needy.
So, there you have a bit of information on the crystals I use for the balancing of the heart chakra in Reiki sessions. In the next article relating Reiki with crystals, I will go through the crystals used with the throat, third eye, and crown chakras.
Wishing you a day full of Love and Light!

Hi,
I wanted guidance as to which hands crystal bracelets to be worn in. I am left handed. Since, there is so much info out there, it really gets confusing for me.
On one hand, I have heard that crystal bracelets should be worn as per the dominant and non dominant hand rule-which can vary basis handedness.
On the other hand, I have also heard that
irrespective of your handedness, right hand is the giving hand and left hand is the receiver, across, and that it remains the same for everyone.
Please suggest how should I go about deciding
