Animal Reiki and Dental Surgery: A Case Study

Article by Rev. Dr. Tracy Cox, DD

As an Reiki Master Teacher and Practitioner, I am sometimes called upon to send Reiki to beloved pets that are dealing with some type of health crisis. In this case study, I would like to share the wonderful healing power of Reiki that supported a small dog dealing with dental surgery.

The subject was a 13 pound hairless dog that was dealing with 15 teeth that needed to be extracted because of infection. Hairless dogs are genetically predisposed to losing teeth because of their breeding line. This is always an area that certain dogs will have issues with, and can be very distressing for the dog and owner. As an Animal Reiki practitioner, you will need to send Reiki to all the players involved in any veterinary surgery for the best healing results.

In preparation for the surgery, I consulted with the vet doing the dental surgery, and told him that we were going to be sending him, the dog and the owner Reiki, before, during and after the surgery. He was all for it and thanked me for doing so. He also said that he would report back with results. What a blessing to find an animal doctor that was open to the beautiful healing energy of Reiki!

I began to send the owner, the vet and the dog, Reiki, including all of the symbols, by distance, a few days before the surgery. The owner noticed that she felt more calm and at peace, even though she was very worried about the surgery. Animal dental surgery requires, general anesthetic and hairless dogs’ body temperatures can go lower than other dogs during the procedure, even though they are covered up with blankets.

When the time came for the surgery, I gathered myself and two other Reiki Masters to send distance Reiki to the dog, the vet and the owner. We continued to send distance Reiki including all the symbols for the duration of the procedure. When I spoke to the vet after the surgery, he said that it had gone very well, and they were surprised at how fast the dog’s body temperature recovered after the surgery. They also noticed that the dog came out of the anesthetic very quickly and was full of energy as soon as it woke up, which was unusual, but very positive. Everyone involved was so relieved to see this sweet little dog awake and peppy after such an extensive surgery.

Three days after the surgery, the dog went in to see the vet for a follow-up appointment. After looking in the dog’s mouth for a time, the vet turned to me and said “I don’t know what you are doing, but keep doing it! This dog’s healing is more like three weeks of healing, not three days! How wonderful!” I told him that myself and two other Reiki Masters were continually sending Animal Reiki to the dog so that he would heal quickly with no complications, for the highest good of all concerned. The vet was very impressed and said that he really had never seen anything like it.

Fast forward two years: the dog is happy and healthy, and has not had any further dental problems.

This case study shows the power of Animal Reiki to support and help animals deal with surgery and recovery. In all cases, making sure to send Reiki to all the players involved in the surgery makes all the difference. The power of Reiki to help the owner, the doctor and the animal have the best outcome is a beautiful thing to behold, and one that I invite any Reiki practitioner to experience as they share the beautiful healing power of Reiki. As we learn Animal Reiki and share it with our animal friends, we will uphold all creatures great and small in the loving embrace of the Universal Life Force. What a wonderful and rewarding use of Reiki!
