Crystal Bowl Healing and Reiki

I was fortunate to attend a crystal bowl concert this week, my first, lead by my friend and Reiki Master, Marci Starr Brennan. I love to sample different styles of energy healing in its many different flavors. This special gathering was such a beautiful experience!

Sound Healing is a modality that has been in use for centuries. The use of music, chanting, drumming, tuning forks and crystal bowls to reach and balance our mind and bodies is a practice as old as time itself. As a Reiki Master, Marci also uses energy to channel and connect to the spirit world, inviting spirit guides in to assist with the healing.

Crystal Bowl healing works by using sound to attune to our human chemistry. Because we are vibrational beings, sound frequencies and vibration connect to our bodies on a cellular level, reaching our internal organs and stimulating self healing in our DNA.

The sound and vibrations emanating from the crystal singing bowls re-tune the listener’s body and connect to our chakras or energy centers along the spine. Each energy center is associated with a musical note or vibrational frequency. The organs in our bodies respond in a similar manner. Sound frequencies balance and produce a transformational state of tranquility.

We started the crystal bowl session seated comfortably in a small room at a friend’s home. In the center was Marci in a flowing skirt surrounded by quartz bowls of all shapes and sizes.  Marci has a natural glowing energetic aura about her all the time, and in this warm and inviting atmosphere, it is clearly apparent.

As in any form of energy healing, intent is an important element in sound healing. Before she begins, Marci instructs us to use breath to relax and set our intent to receive healing. She advises that it is common during a session to feel a physical pain or discomfort in the body as old trauma is released. If this happens, we are to release it by first acknowledging it and then letting it go. This can be as simple as: “I feel a pain in my head, I now release it.”

As Marci began to play, amazing sound and vibration filled the room. It is like nothing I have ever heard before. The powerful sound reverberates, envelopes and almost becomes a part of you. As Marci plays she connects to Reiki energy using the symbols and that beautiful energy flows from her out into the room, touching and healing each participant individually.

As she plays, Marci goes through each of the seven chakras, clearing and balancing each one, starting with the root chakra and progressing through the crown chakra.  The tones can produce a deep meditational state and many listeners will see visions or colors while experiencing vibrational sound healing. Connecting to spirit, Marci chants and sings along with the melodic bowls.

Though the concert lasted about forty minutes, for me it seemed to fly by and at its conclusion I felt relaxed and peaceful, as if I had just woken up from a restful sleep. Other participants shared that they felt the same. On follow up, one of my coworkers who is in the process of quitting smoking cigarettes, stated that her cravings had disappeared! Another decided that it was Marci’s playing was what had caused his house to finally sell, as he got a phone call immediately after telling him it was under contract.

Here is a description of what Marci does in her own words: “I love Crystal Singing Bowls! It is amazing to me how their tones can transform the heart and transport the spirit. My love affair began 15 years ago when I first heard these magical bowls at a meditation group. Today I have my own collection and play for schools, medical settings, churches, and anywhere else people invite me. To watch others faces light up when they first see the bowls is always a treat for me. After listening, the response is usually “I feel like I could float home!”

When I hear the bowls, I feel an opening of my heart chakra and the experience with dimensional expansion is beyond words. The feelings of comfort that touch the heart and soul reach out like a big hug. I feel honored to be able to share these sacred vibrations in our world.”
