Incorporating the Reiki principles into your life can be life transforming. The Principles mean different things to each of us and it is a good idea to meditate on each one to discover what it means to you. You can then focus on them in a more meaningful way and engage with them in real terms in your life and daily practice.
Many people have changed or added to the original principles to personalise them or make them more suitable to their life/modern life and there are now several different versions out there, all of which have merit.
When I teach Reiki I like to spend some time with the student discussing each principle and what it means in their life. I find this always brings up new insights and fresh perspective for me as well as the student. So I thought a series of articles looking at each principle might help us to review our approach to the principles and renew our connection with them, not just in theory but as a real part of our life.
Just for today I will not worry.
Worry is a wasted energy as it cannot change anything, it does however lead to anxiety, stress and unhappiness. It can cause an imbalance of the mind, body and spirit and create energy blockages and disharmony within.
Obviously things happen in life that are difficult but it is how we accept, face and deal with them that determines our ultimate happiness and wellbeing.
It may be difficult, but by choosing to have a brighter, more positive outlook you can create a more positive mindset and give yourself the best chance at a harmonious happy life.
Choosing to see a setback as an opportunity to learn and grow will help you to find the positive side and lead to a more fulfilling experience.
Make time to be light-hearted, help yourself see the brighter side of life by watching a funny film, spending time with people who make you smile and get in touch with your inner child with activities like painting, jumping in puddles, and having fun. Laughter is a great medicine and so is self-healing.
Self-healing can help to rebalance your mind body and spirit and lift your state of mind, removing any blockages caused by worry, anxiety or stress.
I find visualisation really helpful during this kind of self-healing. Picturing Reiki as a beautiful light surrounding the situation that is bothering you and visualising it getting better and having positive outcomes can really help. So often we worry about things that haven’t even happened yet; losing sleep imagining all sorts of unsettling things. This is where Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen comes in; sending Reiki into the future to help you peacefully resolve the issues that worry you can help to ease your anxiety in the present. Knowing that you are taking control really helps as well as knowing that the reassuring presence of Reiki will smooth your pathway and sooth your worries.
If it would help you, you can also write down your worries and then draw any Reiki symbols that you feel are appropriate over the page and hold your hands over the page, sending Reiki to the worry with the intention of positive outcome and peace of mind.
Life is too short to spend it worrying, but if a whole lifetime seems like too much to ask, Mikao Usui reminds us to be gentle with ourselves and just focus on not worrying today.
Wishing you carefree days and worry free nights.
