Art and Color Therapy Combined with Reiki Energy in Healing Emotional and Mental Problems

Article by Ranjini Rao

Have you ever thought how Color Therapy can relieve the emotional / mental stress and reduce hyper anxiety or confusion?

One might ask – What is color association got to do with the emotions and mind? What has colors got to do with my stress? How can I solve the problem of confusion and anxiety?

Can colors really help in providing solutions or healing ourselves? The answer is yes. Let me explain the co-relation. But first let us see the facts. Everything is energy and everything is consciousness. Colors have been used as therapeutic tools for thousands of years. There are new ideas and applications of color in the quest for health and well being. Colors have been associated with certain types of energy that are useful for both healers and magicians.

To start with the very basics, sunlight was and still seen to as a part of the healing process even today.

In the below painting,I have used all VBGYOR colors and they are free flowing thoughts like a river that imparts the constantly flowing Reiki into the surrounding environment and also with butterflies with sea shells.

The material represents 4 elements: Water, Earth Element, Colors and Air. All are essential for healing along with Reiki practice.

Very interestingly – sea shells are found on sand shore which is brought by the sea waves , water represents life force, color is a powerful healing property as proven by several research scientists. Dr. Joyce Nelson of San Diego, California, completed a research project which tested the effects of various colors on people whose eyes were exposed to colored lights. During the experiment, subjects were monitored by a polygraph machine and tested for galvanic skin response. When the subjects viewed a violet light, several of them eluded to drops in their pulse rates.

So what is the meaning of Colors and their significance in self-healing for stress and hyper anxiety?

Red: Energizes the nervous system and stimulates the senses. Activates the circulatory system. Helps to heal infections, x-ray damage and ultra violet burns.
Orange: Helps to strengthen lungs and bronchial tubes. Stimulates the thyroid and stomach. Relieves cramps and helps to build bones.
Yellow: Stimulates the lymphatic system, motor and sensory nerves, digestion and increases hormone production.
Lemon: Nourishes the body and brain, helps to clear lungs, stimulates all body repair.
Green: Balances the physical body and cerebrum, stimulates pituitary gland and acts as a germicide.
Blue: Acts as a sedative, lowers fever, relieves inflammations, itching and irritations. Also stimulates the pineal gland.
Indigo: Sedative.Stimulates parathyroid, shrinks abcesses and tumors, and acts as an emotional depressant.
Violet: Activates spleen and white blood cells, helps to reduce fever, and relaxes muscles.
Purple: Lowers body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Also acts as a kidney depressant, and controls lung haemorrhages.
Magenta: Balances emotions, adjusts blood pressure to perfect balance and stimulates adrenals and kidneys.
Scarlet: Stimulates adrenals and kidneys, emotions and reproductive organs and raises blood pressure.

I see the role of using colors not only in healing but in everyday life, in everyday dressing, everyday wall paper on desktop or smartphone covers..For eg. I have gotten my entire home painted with different colors that have healing properties such as Green in bedroom, Orange in another room, Lavender in the elders room, Yellow for the sacred meditation and healing room and white for kitchen, bathroom, and balcony.

I also paint once in a while and I enjoy working and experimenting with various colors. That activity keeps me grounded and I always experience the benefits of color and Reiki energy combined.

I also use colors for chakra meditations, when I am doing distance healing for myself or someone, where the energy center is blocked with an emotional issue.

For corporate professionals follow these steps to include color therapy in your daily life:

If you experience anger more often arising due to non-supportive colleagues at workplace, try to use more of Purple, Violet and Magenta to become calm and relaxed.

1. Visualise these colors before interactions with your colleagues.
2. Take a deep breath-inhale and exhale three times. Relax your body, mind and be in the moment till you feel the stillness within.
3. Take one color at a time and inhale it until you sense its vibrations within your body. Feel each of these colors flowing through your entire body from top to bottom and finally transmute them into violet flames and send them back into the universe. Thank yourself and thank your higher self .

If you feel anxiety (usually felt in the stomach/ abdomen area) before crucial presentations or meetings – imagine or visualize Yellow, Lemon, and Green colors to calm the body and relax the digestive system. It is here where we store most of the emotions like anxiety, fear (as in butterflies in the stomach).
Then follow the steps 2 and 3 as mentioned above.
