All Practitioners of Reiki, from beginners to Masters, are connected. We are an interwoven collective that spans all genders, races, religions, creeds, ages, and financial statuses. However, the connectivity of us is sometimes as negative as it is positive. We must work on this, together.
I am speaking of encounters where we do things that reflect poorly on us as an individual. Sometimes we get angry, sometimes we say or do things that we don’t mean. Without thinking of the implications of our actions, we lose control of ourselves and our tempers.
Allow me to give you an example.
A few weeks ago a friend of mine was explaining a grievance of hers on social media. She had caught a friend in a lie. The female friend she spoke of had gone behind her back and performed some very mean actions. When confronted, she then lied about it. My friend explained on social media that, “It really discredits Reiki Practitioners when they do things like that”. The words stung, although they were not spoken about me, because I am a Reiki Practitioner and Teacher.
As it turns out, the other woman whom my friend spoke about was a Reiki Master and teacher too! The conversation then turned into how others had expected someone who practices Reiki professionally to act in, well, a more professional manner.
I understand that we are all human, and that we all are imperfect. However, when we perform underhanded or nefarious actions, they reflect even more negatively because we are expected to live by The Reiki Principles. We are taught the principles in the very beginning of our training. We are expected to live by them, and we should live by them.
The Reiki Principles are the cornerstone of our training. Let us allow them to be the cornerstone of our lives as well. If we can live the principles, embody the principles completely instead of just memorizing them without engraving them in our hearts, we will truly learn to be Reiki instead of just doing Reiki.
The Reiki Principles
- Just for today, I will not anger.
- Just for today, I will not worry.
- Just for today, I will be grateful for all my blessings.
- Just for today, I will work with honesty and integrity.
- Just for today, I will be kind to all living things.
