Most of us have heard about Spirit Boards, and most of those times we hear only negative things, one of my students asked me once about them. I have to admit that I don’t have one and have never used it but, is it as dangerous as they say?
Spirit Boards are a very famous way to contacting entities and apparently are also very easy to use, and because of their popularity many people have used them. Sadly in media like movies and such we only see them in horror films, and most of the information we may find about them is only negative. So, Spirit Boards are bad or good?
I like comparing Spirit Boards with fire. Is fire bad or good? Yes it’s true that fire can burn or even kill, destroy and consume buildings, fields and forests, but it can also keep us warm in a cold night, it can be useful for cooking our food or can even be a light in a dark night.
With this example we can see that fire can be considered as a bad thing when it is used without caution, without paying attention to what is going on, or even without knowing how to use it. But in a controlled situation it can be very useful.

In my very own opinion, a Spirit Board is a tool we may use if we feel ok with it, especially because as Reiki practitioners we can protect the area we are going to work in, also we know which entities we are inviting, etc. Also some Reiki practitioners and masters (myself included) use a Bovis Biometer (the ones used with a Pendulum) or Archetypes to check on the patient’s health, energy and such. A Biometer is some kind of Spirit Board in the end.
I must add that when you are afraid of something, you are doubting of your own abilities but also you are giving a “negative power” to it, so don’t be afraid of it. If you don’t feel comfortable or ready to use it, don’t worry and also don’t try to force things, maybe it’s not the time for you to use it, or maybe this tool is not for you.
A few days ago on the internet I found a photo of a Reiki Spirit Board, with the numbers, the letters, the words “Yes” and “No” and also with Reiki symbols on it, so I guess someone is already using this tool for Reiki therapies!
The Spirit Board is just a tool that can be used for good so don’t be afraid of it, but just like with fire, treat it with respect and use it carefully if you have the chance and decide to use it.
