Article by Deborah Lloyd, Reiki Master
Our world is experiencing violence everywhere, it seems. From long-lasting wars, to terrorist attacks, to shootings, there are literally thousands of people who have been killed or injured, just in this past year. What can we do to stop this madness?
At the same time, there is a rise among the number of people awakening to the Light and Love that is within each human being. Herein is the key to stop the violence that exists in our world.
When we analyze this dichotomy, and look at what beliefs underlie the violent, as opposed to the light-filled, actions, we realize the fundamental truth. It is as simple as – fear vs. love. Every thought, every belief, every act, is based in either fear, or love. The energy of fear can be manifested in many ways: ethnocentricity, fanaticism, sexism, slander, greed, prejudice, the list goes on. The energy of love embraces the knowledge that every person on earth is sacred. We are all part of the One. With that knowledge, attitudes of generosity, respect, compassion and honor of every person on earth flourish.
To end violence, every person must examine his own heart, his words and his actions. Are we living a life of fear, or a life of love? If we talk about a coworker in an unkind way, we are adding unloving energies to earth. If we remain silent when others make racist or sexist remarks, we are living out of fear. If we criticize other belief systems, we are building walls between peoples, not avenues of understanding and trust.
That being said, there are times when we need to challenge belief systems that are based in fear. How we do this is vitally important. We can challenge fear-based systems in wise ways so that others can understand and learn. Or, we can rant and rave, adding to the division. For example, if our government passes a new law that is discriminatory to a minority race, we can educate other people about the injustice. We can demonstrate peacefully. We can write letters to government officials. Most importantly, we can send Light and Love, through Reiki, to our governmental representatives, with the intention of opening their hearts and minds to serve all peoples in a just and loving manner.
Sometimes, it is hard to believe that one person (I) can make a difference. It is easy to think my little voice will not be heard, that my actions will not change anything. Nothing is further from the truth! Certainly, as more and more of us lightworkers bring more positive, loving energies to earth, big changes will occur. But, it takes each and every one of us to form this new way of living together.
Let us be inspired by this famous (and one of my favorite) quotes from Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Reiki practitioners, as well as all healing professionals and people of Light, are called to take actions to end the violence. We are called to bring healing energies into the earth, eventually changing the world. We must do it one thought, word and action at a time; one client at a time; one day at a time. It will not happen overnight; it may not even happen during our lifetimes. Peace on Earth is an essential goal for each one of us. We must act now! Set the intention for world peace, and live in love – that is the Reiki way.
