When you are practicing Reiki it is usual for the patients to ask you some questions about it, have you ever had a patient who ask you if you can guarantee that a Reiki session or therapy will heal him or her from some disease?, this is not a very common question, I have never been asked this but one of my students had by one of his patients.
Let’s start by looking beyond Reiki, let’s see things in a more material-world way. In order to become a Reiki practitioner or to become a Reiki master, do we have to learn many things?, do we have to practice?, actually we have to, if you are practicing Reiki you already know there are many things you have to do, and there are many things you even have to change in your life in order to become a successful practitioner. Now, is that different from other life paths? Don’t lawyers, engineers, psychologists, medical doctors, accountants have to do the same things? I mean, don’t they have to make changes in their lives, learn many things and practice in order to become successful on their own paths?
Now the question is, do those people give you any guarantee of their work? curiously the answer is ‘no’. If you hire a lawyer because you have a legal problem, does he or she will give you a guarantee that all of your legal problems will disappear overnight?, or when you go to a medical doctor, does he or she will give you a guarantee that you will recover your health completely? that never happens. All they can guarantee is that they are going to do all they can, and use all of their knowledge and experience to help you solve your problem the best they can, but they cannot (and will not) guarantee the results.
A Reiki practitioner can only do the same, especially because as Reiki therapists our work with the patients depends on us but also on them, if they want to recover their health, we are going to help them with a Reiki therapy, but if they are not changing their lifestyles even when they know that the cause of their health problems could be within themselves, it is not our fault but theirs, it must be a teamwork. So, all you can guarantee is that you are going to do all you can to help them, that you will use your experience, knowledge and practice to improve the patient’s life and health.
Another important question in these matters would be, should we keep treating a patient who is like that? a patient who actually doesn’t want to get any better because he or she just doesn’t seem to care?, I would say no. It is not good for our Reiki practice to have a patient who says that he or she not getting any better just because he or she doesn’t want to. Sadly nowadays in some places, people still don’t consider Reiki therapies as something serious, they just expect the practitioner to do all the work, or they just attend to a Reiki therapy because it is something strange, different and they like strange-fancy things. I strongly recommend to stop working with patients like those because they might cause you to loose many other patients since a patient who is not getting better after a long time could be taken by others as proof that you are not a good therapist, also because the continuous ‘exposure’ to this kind of patients could make you start doubting of your own abilities.
Luckily, the more practice you do the best patients you will receive, remember you attract what you are. So if you are a good practitioner (and you will keep improving as long as you keep up with your Reiki practice), good patients will come to you and you can always guarantee that Reiki will change the patient’s life for good!
