What is actually a Reiki attunement?
We all were attuned to the life force, sanjeevani (we call it at present Reiki, the name given by Dr Usui) by the almighty God, at the time of the creation of the Universe. We all were aware of our connection to the Supreme power. We all were aware of the energy and it’s use in our lives and purpose of aatma being in the body, but by the passage of time we (aatma) were overruled by Mana, it starting manipulating budhi, and over years and years, it was successful in getting a victory over budhi. The aatma which was connected to god lost the track. The ego (ahankaar) took the place of aatma and become the driver of body. It started thinking I am the creator and can rule the whole Universe. Like this the negativities started coagulating in the body which started taking the form of diseases- psychic, emotional, social, mental. The man totally became unaware of the life-force which was the supreme gift of the supreme power to him.
Now what is attunement?
We buy a guitar from the market. It is tuned to all the nodes. When someone play it, it composes the beautiful music. But after few days the wires(cords) which are made of metal get loose or tight. They need to be tuned either you have to learn to tune them or to take your guitar to specialist to get it tuned.
The exactly same with the mankind as I shared, at the time Supreme being created us, we all were attuned to the God, our cords were attached to Him without any Knick, but as the time passed the cords were entangled. Few of them were blocked and other were totally broken and we forgot the way to repair, mend or tune them. We need a spiritual healer to mend them who helps to remove the blockages to mend them.
We all are cosmic beings as the way we are related to universe outwardly the same way we are related to universe inwardly.

Now comes the attunement part
Attunement is the tuning of cosmic cords i.e. mending the cords to make a connection with higher self.
How it can be done?
The very first step is the initiation.
Initiation is the process when a sanjeevani healer, Reiki master, an energy worker, light worker introduces the student to light, reiki, life-force or sanjeevani.
The Reiki master, sanjeevani healers, light workers help the students feel the energy in and around them by some techniques, meditations and by some of the exercises. They guide them to practice Reiki.
The initiation alone is not sufficient, it is only the base of Reiki practice and after that the student has to question his or her identity every moment (why am I here? Who am I?), has to sieve his/her thoughts and to surrender every moment to HIM and practice it on a daily basis.
It can be in person, it can be self attunement (as Dr Usui) or it can be distance also.
Initiation is a very general part. What is more important is the person’s INTENTION, how is he taking it, how is the person feeling it, practicing it and bringing it to life.
Getting initiated to Reiki by a master is not all. As I already shared we all were initiated and attuned by God at the time of creation of Universe.
The regular practice make us to establish a connection with God. This whole process is called attunement. After a regular Reiki practice one gets attuned to the life force and God.
With his guidance and our intuitions we are able to heal ourself at physical, mental and spiritual level and can also heal all other beings by using the universal life force.

Master Usui was attuned my the universe to pass onto people. He said attunements have to be passed my Master to student in person. As such they can not be done by self or over the internet or by phone.
Hi Kat, yes we are aware that there is a difference of opinion between different Reiki Masters. Some believe attunements cannot be done remotely, some say they can.
We believe, both after logically examining the concepts and experiencing them first hand, that YES it is possible to get attuned remotely, just like it is possible to send healing remotely.

I know attunement can be done at a distance because I experienced it. I had read reviews of how beautiful it was, but my attunement when it came showed me only death and darkness, I don’t know why, but if I had been with a Reiki master at the time I would have been led and guided out of that dark place instead of having to find my own way. I am not blaming the distant Reiki master and I am certainly not blaming the Reiki. I guess something in me needed adjustment before I was attuned. So if you happen to be depressive or bipolar I would suggest in person is better.

A Takata’s letter was found some time ago and there she confessed she had attuned some people at a distance and or by phone. In fact I have been attuned in person once, and the second time was at a distance. Both were marvelous experience. I always wonder to myself… if we can send reiki at a distance, or to make an eteric surgery at distance, why not couldn’t we do the same, attuning people at a distance too? I think it is a confidence, trusting yourself matter
I think at the time of your attunement ellie590 u were only shown darkness and death because thats what u saw in your reality at that time, i hope u have sorted this out now, i do believe that everyone should have contact with a master for any light working/reiki spiritual attunements as u will not be in a proper frame of mind to recieve these, althoufh i too have had in person and distant attunements and both were on par i would actually go to say i had more experience with my distant attunements and now offer distant attunements reiki has no limits on time and space its only our reality and thought ego that stop this from happening as its been said everyone has there own beliefs teachings on this and mine is the latter blessings love and light to al???? l such a wonderful site reiki rays with a mountain of information and upgraded info thank you and much grattitude to youse ????

I have a Reiki Aura Music Attunement CD, by Reiki Master Steve Murray, where Reiki Aura Attunements are embedded throughout the 1hr single track CD. I assume this also would work if distance attunements work.
Reiki is a spiritual connection between a Master Teacher and the student, this is a connection in person just as Master Usui wished and believe.
while doing attunement of student is it very necessary to contract hui yin point .Can it be done without contracting hui yin ??

In Holy Fire 2 Reiki, there is no reason to contract the hui yin. Attunements are. I longer give and has been replaced by the reiki placement and ignition system.
As such all students receive the reiki placement or ignition directly from God and the Holy Spirit just as Usui Sensei had done.
This removes any filters or negative vibrations being passed down from the Master to the student And thus results in a more pure and gentle process than the attunement.
No, it is not. As long as the INTENTION is there the attunement will work, you basically can’t go wrong with the process. Its all about intention,you can fluff up the steps of the initiation process and it will always work, as its all about intention and we are merely a channel.
In order to use Reiki you MUST be attuned by an attuned Reiki Master (In person or by distance). You cannot simply attune yourself to it. There are no cords involved and is a misrepresentation of how the attunements/Reiju work. This comment “has to sieve his/her thoughts and to surrender every moment to HIM and practice it on a daily basis.” is also incorrect, consciousness is consciousness and who exactly is “HIM”?? Reiki is not a god. This next comment is also incorrect “Getting initiated to Reiki by a master is not all. As I already shared we all were initiated and attuned by God at the time of creation of Universe.” Are you talking about something else here? TO DO REIKI YOU DO NEED TO BE INITIATIATED!! REIKI is a JAPANESE WORD. REIKI originated in JAPAN. To confuse it with anything else is showing you have no understanding – if you are refering to other systems use the names of those systems people need to stop calling everything Reiki! There is no reason to contract the Hui Yin point at all, no need for violet breathing or any of those add ons. They were NEVER part of the USUI system they are practices added later by other Masters who changed things – usually to satisfy their ego and to make some money. People need to actually start researching the history and practices of Reiki from many different angles (Such as Gakkai in Japan) and other Lineages.
@Travis I agree whole heartedly with everything you are saying. It is evident that the Reiki community has been infiltrated with greed and ego. Someone is always trying to come up with something that is better than… this is ego work.
Reiki is gentle powerful and has its own intention. We don’t need to mix it when anything else to make it more or less powerful. PERIOD.
People forget that Dr. Usui was a highly seasoned practitioner of the Chi arts. Most people today are completely clueless about the energy in the body. Long distance attunements are real but, it takes away from the sacredness of the experience. Not to mention, that the guidance of an instructor is to keep people out of ego traps and to let go and let Reiki until the student can do it all on their own. Which takes time and practice. Yes, people can do this all on their own, but why would they want to? Reiki was meant to be a catalysts to connect you to the universe.
Usui created the Reiki System after an enlightenment on Mount Kurama, and developed it over time. He even created the 4 Reiki Symbols – they were not passed down from Tibet at all. Usui & the Gakkai use Reiju. Hayashi Invented the Reiki 1 & 2 attunement and Hawayo Takata invented the Master attunement as her second lot of Reiki Masters she trainined could not properly understand energy so she was left with no choice but to invent the attunement for ‘Masters’ because they did not feel like one without ‘an attunement.’
And as for all of this rubbish about Holy Fire 2 Reiki – again no understanding of energy and how it works. Labelling it as God and Holy Spirit is highly incorrect and is just another re-branding of Reiki that is unneccessary, more ego and another cash grab. Reiki is an unfathomable thing to the human mind but it is available to us. Re-inventing it all the time does nothing for anyone except cause division and disharmony.
Each person experiences Reiki differently – the continual attempts to categorize and control it is simply ego, and an attempt to control others.
You are right Trav, all these “add” on are about money there is NO need for them as Reiki already does it all. Be it crystal reiki, dragon reiki, Holy Fire its getting money and ego. If people worked with what Master Usui gave us we would understand that all the others are a waste.

This clarification is so valid, truthful and accurate. Reiki is powerful in itself. It does not need to be supported or improved by any other modalities. I can only say I feel sorry for those deceiving others in the name of Reiki. What you sow, you will reap.

I appreciate the article and all the comments, and those who commented too. I was attuned to Reiki at the master level a few years ago, and mostly use this practice only for myself and my husband. There are so many different thoughts about Reiki energy use as there are practitioners, it seems. I feel somewhat self-conscious about practicing Reiki for others because of all the controversy surrounding it.
I would be grateful for your opinion on whether it is ok to attune someone with a pacemaker. Thank you 🙏
I’m afraid I personally have to disagree with this statement; as a practitioner I am, for over 30 years of experience as a Reiki practitioner, the power of online business is changing the nature of this discipline as this one states: “It can be in person, it can be self attunement (as Dr. Usui), or it can be distance also”.
We are talking in here about Monks and Buddhism…
Not just a Religious Discipline, but also a way of living…Something that in this Country only congregations with this title exits.
Please tell me which Dr. treat themselves with when they need surgery?
This practice is not any different, to compare ourselves “as Dr. Usui.” Like other masters, have the ENLIGHTENMENT from the moment they were born, took them many afterlives to achieve that Enlightenment by doing rituals beyond our knowledge and understanding, because there were many scripts that were lost and burned for religious purposes.
Reiki is just a piece of it.
After I had my first attunement, my hands get to the point that I get the feeling of fever in my hands as I am having them right now as I writing this letter, and I didn’t have that specific sensation until I was attuned by my master in person, that by the way, didn’t charge me because she said I had the “gift.” From My Own Experience.
