Unconditional Love

Article by Paula Vanderzon

One of my favourite Reiki teachings is that Reiki is unconditional love. When you look at healing energy as unconditional love it seems to take away any mystery or concern about how to use the energy “properly” because it is just simply the highest form of love that we can access, and we all love ourselves some love!!

Love however is a loaded word for many people. When they think of love they associate it with feel good emotions, happiness and maybe even heartbreak or confusion. Unconditional love however, is pure. There are no emotions or feelings surrounding unconditional love. It is the purest, highest vibration that we can access while in our physical bodies. It has no conditions and it has no boundaries. It loves us no matter what we do or say. It works its healing magic on us no matter how much we may judge ourselves or our physical conditions.

In our 3rd Dimensional lives we place many conditions on love. For example, “I will love you if you treat me in a certain way”; “I will love you if you behave in a certain way”; “I will love you if you do as I say”; “I will love you if you make me feel a certain way”.

Don’t confuse love with the way people treat us though. If someone is not respecting you or abusing you, then you don’t need to try and love them unconditionally and then allow them to keep doing that to you. Unconditional Self-love is very powerful in that it does not judge us for our past choices. By bringing unconditional love and healing into the situation you will do what is best for you, and in a flow-on effect, will be helping the other person as well.

Unconditional love

Unconditional love does not involve sacrifice. We do not have to love another and sacrifice ourselves. Unconditional self-love is the greatest of all healing gifts we can give to ourselves; it is not just reserved for giving to others. And interestingly, Reiki is about self-treatment and self-mastery, not just about giving treatments to others.

Unconditional love is allowing what is, to be. When there are no boundaries, limits or conditions, then we are able to allow the greatest and highest healing vibrations into our lives. If we try to control the healing energy of unconditional love then we limit its power by placing a too focussed intent or condition onto the healing outcome we want.

Whenever I have new Reiki students who are struggling with “treating” a certain physical condition or worrying about whether Reiki would be the right treatment in a certain circumstance, I just bring their awareness back to the concept that Reiki is simply just unconditional love. They noticeably relax, smile and just know then how to use Reiki, and their worries or concerns go away. We all have a divine connection to unconditional love, just as we all have a divine connection to Reiki, and we instinctively know what to do with it.

When we connect to the highest forms of unconditional love we know that there is no right or wrong, or good or bad, there is just pure Love and Light. When we offer Reiki to someone we are quite simply offering them unconditional love – some may refuse this of course, and that is OK. By re-affirming that Reiki is Unconditional Love, it can bring the unconditional power of love into your life and the lives of your clients.
