The Wonder of R-E-I-K-I

As beginners, one of the first things we learnt was the meaning of the word Reiki.

In Japanese, Rei means Universal or Divinely Guided and Ki means Life Force Energy. So, Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy. It sounds exciting indeed!

If we are regular with practice and stick to the path, we come to realise that Reiki is so much more than what we understand from its name. The more we practise, the deeper we go. And we finally decipher that there is no one word that can describe the beauty of the Reiki path. With our limited human mind, let us look into each letter that makes up the word REIKI and try to comprehend the depth of Reiki in a fun way!

R for:

Radiance – This beautiful energy is the radiant light of our Higher Self; the light of the highest truth in the Universe.
Relaxation – Reiki has the power to melt away all our stress and to help us relax, often to the point of putting us to sleep.
Rejuvenation – Reiki is as rejuvenating as massage therapy and helps us feel refreshed on a daily basis.
Rest – For those who lead a fast paced life, Reiki practice is one of the best ways to make some time for rest, leisure and alone time.
Relief – Reiki offers us relief from all kinds of pains- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Reliable – Reiki is pure love. It is non-judgemental. It assists us with all kinds of situations, without pausing to think if we deserve it or not. It is one hundred percent reliable.
Restoration – It supports the physical body by gently restoring the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
Responsibility – It helps us take responsibility for our lives, without which we can never hope to heal. It is like a kind yet firm parent who is always present for her child but will make sure the child learns to take responsibility for self.

E for:

Energetic – Reiki helps people who are generally low on physical energy feel more energetic. And for the rest of us, it literally energises each of our cells and helps remove all traces of lethargy from the system.
Enigmatic – Reiki has a beautifully mysterious feel to it. Science cannot explain it as yet. But all seasoned healers will vouch for the fact that healing with your hands feels like a divine secret buried in the depths of the soul.

Enrichment – Reiki can be incorporated with almost all aspects of life. It enriches every aspect of life- health, relationships, love and career as well as the activities of day to day life such as cooking, cleaning, gardening, sleeping, bathing etc.
Enlightenment – Reiki leads us on the journey towards discovering our enlightened self (the soul). All healing is ultimately a means of soul searching and self discovery.
Expression – Reiki helps us with expression of all kinds. It awakes our ability for creative and artistic expression. It heals and refines our emotional expression.
Empowerment – It empowers us in all possible ways. With its loving support, we have the power to heal the body, mind and spirit.

I for:

Intelligence – It goes without saying that Reiki is an intelligent energy. It carries the innate intelligence of the Universe in its core. It knows where to flow and how much to flow in order to facilitate healing.
Inspiration – It awakens our source of inspiration. It helps bring out hidden gifts and talents from this lifetime as well as past lifetimes. It inspires one to unify spirit with matter, to literally create heaven on Earth.
Intuition – It helps with uncovering our intuitive capacities and to bring in insights from the higher realms of energy, including our own Higher Self.
Innocence – It helps us get in touch with our inner child, to cultivate enthusiasm for life and to view life from a fresh new perspective, just like a child would do.
Intention – It strengthens the power of intention, which is one of the most fundamental principles upon which life operates. Our intention determines the unfolding our life’s path.
Illumination – As Reiki practitioners, we are illuminated literally as well as figuratively! Not only does our aura begin to radiate light but our lives also light up with more joy, calm, peace and wellness.

K for:

Knowledge – Reiki helps us transcend the veil of amnesia and to re-discover the knowledge that will point us back towards our true self.
Kindness – Reiki softens the heart. One soul at a time, it helps to bring in love and kindness to a world that is starved of love and peace.

I for:

Infinite – Reiki has no limits and no boundaries. It is not bound by space and time. It stems from a Source that is infinite.
Indescribable – And here we return to where we started! The above descriptions only give a glimpse of what the Reiki experience is all about. It is a miracle that we are even able to comprehend this much. None of this does full justice to the significance of Reiki in its entirety. Reiki is truly indescribable in words!
